Need help with reception venue!

Hey everyone, our wedding is planned for September next year. We have about 45 guests. We were planning on having a untraditional wedding by renting a lake house at the guadalupe river. I was thinking of a BBQ style reception, no Dj only sound system, pretty easy going and casual. The budget is set at $3500.

Most lake houses don't allow a group that big on their property due to possible sewage problems. The few ones that do allow a large group charge btw $4k-$5. I need a house that is big enough to accomodate the bridal party at least. Most places wont allow parking for more than 2 vehicles per cabin. I had a look at all these houses like hideout on the guadalupe etc and the parking situation is bad.

My fiance is getting quiet annoyed cause he doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money for the wedding. He said he'd rather go to Vegas and stay at a Casino. I bought my wedding dress already.

I am getting so frustrated in finding a place for us. I don't know what to do anymore. Should I cut the guest list down? Should I call the big bash off and we elope? Any ideas?

Yeah, I looked for houses to rent for a long time and it is not very easy or budget friendly. The only place I found that might possibly work for you is: http://rockinyranch.com/, but it's still going to be about $2500 (or more) I believe just for the rental. But, if you're doing BBQ and only have 40 people, it might work for you and your budget.

You might also check out some of the venues rented out by the City of Austin, they are typically about $1500 and there are some cool spaces, though it goes through a lottery system: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/reservefacilities.htm

I know you want a wedding on the river, but anything with a view is going to be costly.

I recommed Heritage Oaks Clubhouse. For all day, it rents for 800 dollars. It is a beautiful place, and one of the brides, Richelle, I believe got married there and loved it. You can read her review on this board.

Check out Red Corall Ranch in Wimberly. I am no sure how it will fit with your budget but they cater to family reuion-style weddings.

I want to say Red Corral was in the 5000 + range because they make you rent the entire ranch, but I could be wrong..

When I first started looking for a venue, I found these two places that sounded kind of like what you are looking for:

Rowe Valley Event Center - this one says the pricing is higher, but since your party is smaller it might be worth a phone call to see what the pricing would be. http://www.rowevalleyeventcenter.com/default.html

This one is a vacation home, but they are used for weddings and events.

When I was searching, House on the Hill seemed very affordable.

If you aren't planning a big reception with dancing, and just want a place to mingle and have a good meal, you should look into Z Tejas on West 6th. We're having our rehearsal dinner there, and the private room is cozy and casual but classy, seats up to 70 for dinner, has a private bar and entrance, and is very affordable ($25 to $39/person for food and space rental).

This might sound a little crazy, but what about something really non-traditional, like a summer camp? I worked at the one linked below, and they rent the entire ranch out for around your budget, if I remember correctly. It is a beautiful space with access to the river, and a secluded water/swimming hole. Check out the photos on the website. Parking wouldn't be an issue, and there is a large ranch house where you could stay.
