  I haven't had colored fondant before so I'm not sure if that's any different but that is a problem with colored buttercream. Or put a thinner silver ribbon on the navy ribbon.   Could you just do a white cake with navy blue and silver accents, so that most of the icing is white? That would cut down on looking like a chow, with blue lips.

  Thanks for the advice.  Those cake pics were beautiful.  We meet with the cake maker next week.  FI really wants a blue cake but if she thinks the fondant will stain mouths, we will have to change our plans.  No Chow-Mouth here, LMAO.  As an animal professional I loved that analogy!!!!

  Keep in mind a slice of wedding cake is like 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick, so you're not eating a lot of blue icing.  Blue cakes are cool... I say go for it.
