Table just for the kids...

FI and I decided to have a table just for his cousins who range in age from about 6 to 13.  They're all VERY close (like siblings and best friends) and their table is going to be right next to a table that has all of their parents at it, so we're not worried about any problems arising.

Do you think we should have some things like crayons, stickers, wedding coloring books, bags of candy, etc. for them?  Or should we just let them be to entertain themselves?

If you think we should have things to keep them occupied, do you have any specific suggestions?

I was thinking of doing this as well for my daughter and 3 cousins. I was going to put them right next to my parents/aunt table.

I don't know what to do in terms of "entertainment", my daughter will play tic tac toe for hours lol so I was just thinking crayons, paper, coloring books. Oriental trading had a little wedding crayon/coloring book set.

We had kids sit with their families during dinner, but then after dinner was finished we had a kids table and stuff such as crayons, etc.  So, my suggestion would be to have all coloring books, etc, but to not bring it out until after table is done.  You can probably have it left under the table and then have someone on staff bring it out.  Our maitre'd did this for us (or had someone do it) and it worked out great.  Also, I think any coloring books will do, I don't think it has to be wedding related.  Just make sure you have stuff that would entertain all ages, genders, etc.

I think I paper table cloth would be cute, so they can draw right on that as well.  I've heard of people doing this for ALL their tables acutally.

Although, I would be worried the young kids would think it's ok to color on all the other table cloths too.

We had the kids sit with their parents during dinner and then had a separate table where I had coloring books and easy crafts set up for them to do whenever they got bored.

I went to a wedding once where the kids were sitting by themselves and a little boy around 7-8 started choking on something and it was awful.   The parent didn't notice at first and when she did it was so sad.  Luckily the little boy was OK,  but honestly, the parents were not paying attention and it could have been bad.

Also, if you decide to have a kids table..make sure you tell them NOT to put champagne on that table.  At the same wedding as above there was champagne on the kids table and two little boys maybe 10-11 drank a glass of champagne!!   I don't believe they drank it all, but they definitely drank enough of it.

Needless to say after that wedding and all the issues with the kids table I would never recommend putting them alone!

We had a kids table and it turned out pretty well. In the middle we had a pumpkin filled with candy and snacks. We also made them bags that had coloring books, crayons, little projects from the dollar store. They used them some of the time and were out dancing a bit.

I have 6 kids in the bridal party, I'm going to make 5 of them (they are ages 3-8) bags and have them as their "escort cards".  I am doing jars of jam for all the adults that will have their table numbers on them so I figured I'd do something fun for the kids.  In the bags I'm putting the following:
    crayons
    glow bracelets
disposible cameras (my little ones LOVE taking pictures so I figured why not get the wedding from their point of view)
activity/coloring book (I might make this, they have some ideas on the diy board and they are so cute)
probably some other little props for dancing

I found bags at the dollar store and I'm going to decorate them with their names and what not.  Most of this stuff can be found at the dollar store, now I just have to figure out what to do for the 13 year old.

That's one of the problems I'm having... the younger kids are easy, but the older kids are more difficult.

You could get them something crafty. I gave my niece a book that you scratch a picture into it and she loved it.

Yep! I feel so bad for him, when I got engaged, he was like "OK, I'm in the wedding party, but I'm NOT a ring bearer right?"  He's my godson so I wanted him in the wedding, I gave him the title of Jr Usher and his job is to escort his little sister down.  He does love to draw and is a great artist so I might just get him some drawing things that are nicer then crayons and coloring books.  He really doesn't need to be entertained though like the little ones, he'll have his mom, sister, and grandparents there to hang with.  So he might just get some jam like the adults..haha

Thanks for all of the ideas, ladies!

I also just realized that about half of those kids have cell phones, handheld video games, etc. so maybe I'll buy a couple things to scatter on the table, but nothing too special since they'll likely have plenty of electronic devices to keep them occupied (sad, but true).

Just be careful with the crayons or markers, I was at a party and the kids destroyed the table cloths with the markers and crayons.  Not sure of the venue's reaction.

I love the idea of the photo scavenger hunt. You get a bunch of disposable cameras, then have a few lists of different photos to take, and the kids will try to take pics of all the things on their list. Some examples: A smiling waiter The wedding cake Someone in a green dress The bride and groom holding hands Someone with a purple tie
