NJ Venues overlooking Manhatten???

My fiance and I would love to get married with a view of Manhatten so we were thinking somewhere in NJ, maybe Jersey City area. Problem is our guest list is up to 280 people and we are on a tight budget. We are looking to spend $100 tops per person, preferably less. Any suggestions on a venue would be great.

Honestly, I think you are going to be incredibly hard pressed to find a venue overlooking the city at the price you are looking to pay. The ones that come to mind are Waterside and the LIberty House, but I'm pretty sure they are out of your price range for a Saturday night at least.
Are you open to a Friday or Sunday?

Its not in New Jersey but in Brooklyn and has the BEST view of NYC period.  And they can work with the budget that you have.  And I believe they can work with your amount to but you would have to check with them.  Check out Giando on the Water.  http://www.giandoonthewater.com/ Go talk to Joe who is the event coordinator.  Tell him what you are willing to spend and he will set something up for you.  Go there for dinner if you want to check out the food first.  Its amazing!!  The have sit down or buffet style upstairs and buffet style downstairs.  They can also do ceremonies too.

I'm not sure if it will fit your large crowd, but what about Bubby's in Dumbo (Brooklyn)?  Fabulous views, pretty space, and the price is not that high.

I got married in Jersey City and was on a similar budget as you, but unfortunately I couldn't find anything in the area for that price range - even for a Friday/Sunday reception in the slow season. You would probably be limited to a brunch or lunch reception if you have your heart set on a skyline view.

You can try looking into Michael Anthony's or the Liberty House in HC, and The Chart House in Weehawken. I don't think they're in your price range, but see if you can negotiate, or ask what a brunch/lunch would cost.

My dream venue was the Liberty Science Center in JC, but the pricing for that was ridiculous. It may be worth a shot to try and negotiate with them, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Bubby's in Brooklyn gets good reviews from what I've heard, if you aren't tied to New Jersey. Maybe there's someplace in Staten Island?

You can't get a skyline view at these places, but they're around your price range and in the area: Puccini's and Casino in the Park in JC, and The Chandelier in Bayonne. I think they're out of your price range and they don't have a skyline view, but there's also the Westin Hotel in JC and the W Hotel in Hoboken.

I inquired with Maxwell's in Hoboken and found their banquet prices to be really good. It's a casual restaurant, though, so IDK if you would be interested in that (plus IDK if they could accommodate 200+ people). Parking is a giant biitch in Hoboken so you'd probably have to arrange for a shuttle servuce, but you'd have a great skyline view nearby for photos.

I inquired with Liberty National Golf Club but they don't rent to non-members. Bayonne Golf Club never got back to me.

I feel your pain, but there unfortunately just isn't much in the JC area that's not super-expensive or just run-down. We ended up having our reception at The Tides Estate in North Haledon and we were very pleased with it ... it was a longer drive than I would've liked for our guests, but we got a very nice reception in our price range. You could also look into Bridgewater Manor in Bridgewater, which was our second-choice place and is also about 40 minutes away from JC.

Good luck, I hope you find something suitable!

I think I would be embarrassed to have my wedding at a place called Bubby's!  LOL

Also consider where people are coming from, if you do a friday event, people may not make the ceremony if you have it over bridges, tunnels, etc.

This is a tough one. Michael Anthonys is just over your price range, but I don't think they can accommodate 280. Chart House can accomodate 280, but I think it's way out of your range. Maybe the Jersey City Hyatt for a brunch or non-Saturday night time?

The Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange.  We were quoted 95 per person on a Friday night in April, and the ceremony over looks the NYC Skyline.

We wanted a skyline view as well and looked at most of the places in NJ pp's have mentioned. 100/pp is doable if you are not including tax+tip.
Waterside and Chart House work on a total $ ammount per event minimum so that may work in your favor although I don't know if they can hold that many people.
You could also try the Sheraton in Weehawken. They had buffet prices for that price.
Hyatt/Liberty House/Westin are all out of your price range.

Highlawn is a great option, but its small and I really doubt could fit even close to 200 people in there. We would have loved a skyline view as well, but getting to the venues on the water would have been a PITA for many of our guests, so we opted against it. I agree the pp price is gonna be tough. Aiming for an off day or time may work. I though Chart House started at $125pp when we looked, so maybe try to negotiate for an off time? Or looking at Brooklyn/Staten Island would prob be the best option

I was thinking HIghlawn too, but PP is probably right - its probably not big enough. I think its going to be really tough to find a place in NJ that will hold that many people, have a skyline view and be in your budget... you might need to change 1 of those criteria.. Is it possible to reduce the guest list at all?

Waterside is $125 p/p for a Friday night, $155 p/p for a Saturday and Sunday was $120 I believe.  The manager I met with was very cold and not willing to negotiate or accomadate.  That was my first choice until I met with them.  Beautiul view tho, I won't take that away.

We booked with The Newark Club... Now THAT is a view, lol - It is everything that we wanted and it is a perk that the manager is absolutely amazing!!  He is so friendly, warm, eager, etc.  I can not say enough good things about him.  I am paying over $100 p/p tho- I am getting married on a Friday night.  I think the Sunday price was a little lower.  Depending on how flexible you are... I think they may be able to work with you.  I beyond reccomed them.  And after I am done reccomending them... I reccomend them some more.

Doesn't The Chart House require you to spend a set amount of money for weddings, rather than a per-person price?

I was there helping another engaged friend last week and those mins are still the same. If you have 280 people you will have no problem hitting those minimums which may be a way for her to have the reception location she wants. They also do a lot of things a la carte so if they sacrafice on food or drink she may get the location and view.

When I went the room was set for 400 people with no problem what-so-ever.  I am having 130 people (inviting 168)... The lobby where cocktail hour is should easily hold 280 between the enterance and the side area.  Keep in mind, if you're inviting 280, odds are all 280 won't be coming.

Ok, well the wedding I attended there had about 120 people and there was barely any room during the cocktail hour. I remember being squished in the middle of the room with nowhere to put our food or drinks down.. so that's why I find it hard to imagine more than 200 people in there...

Sorry, but Highlawn does NOT have a view of the city.  I mean, yeah, you can "see" the city from there, but it's way off in the distance.  The view doesn't even compare to the other places right on the water - Liberty House, Maritime Parc, Chart House, Waterside, Hyatt JC, etc...

What about hotels like the W in Hoboken or the Sheraton(?) in Weehawken by the Chart House?  The Sheraton is probably a lot cheaper, but you also probaby get what you pay for.

I'm having my wedding at Palisadium. My family and I have been to many events held at the Palisadium, and we found the food to be great!  We can't wait for our tasting in a week.

Bill, the manager, has been nothing but a pleasure to work with. He's accomodated all my needs (guest list blew up from 70-100, worked with the chef to get my tasting at a late time, accomodated an ethnic food preference for the groom's family).  He is totally flexible and very chill- also a true professional.

Plus he referred me to a florist who got me a fantabulous deal.  The price is reasonable for a sit down dinner since I am not a fan of dinner buffets. We requested unlimited waiter-served and buffet cocktail hour and unlimited wine+beer service.  lol I happen to be really happy with my choice.  My guests will be so impressed by the views :D

How was your wedding??  I've been looking into Palisadium, but I've heard some bad reviews, but I LOVE the view?  Was the food and service good at your wedding??

    Thanks!
