Changing Name in Michigan

Hey Ladies --

Does anyone know the process for changing your last name to your husband's last name? I am finding conflicting info on the internet.

    Start by changing your name at the social security office. No one else will accept a name change until it is done there. I did SSA first, then the Secretary of State. You must do both of those in person. After that, I created a form letter to send to everyone else; Bank, Dr's offices, Work, Utilities, etc. One of my co-workers is a notary, so I had her notarize the letters and also included a copy of our marriage license as well. I didn't have any problems changing my name, it just takes a while. I'm still getting mail in my maiden name and I submitted all changes in September.
