Nevada-Las Vegas

Atlantic city?

Ha, I know it's not Vegas, but it's gambling so maybe someone on here has been to Atlantic City?  Trying to find a fun place to go on vacation in March and if it has gambling, even better.  Neither of us have ever been to AC so I was wondering if anyone on here has and what they thought of any particular hotel?  Looking for some place nice, contemporary (ideally), fun night life in-house or near by.

We'll be in Vegas in June so that's already covered.

  • AC is def not vegas but we had fun there. Stay in the main area on the boardwalk. It starts getting sketchy right off of the main hotels. Not sure where to stay we stayed at the super 8 a few blocks away. Let's just say that was quite the adventure. ;)

I live close enough to AC that we go a couple of times a year. It's fun - especially if you like to gamble, but it's definitely NOT Vegas. Honestly, outside of the boardwalk and the few resorts off of the boardwalk, the area is pretty sketchy. The only resort that really meets your criteria is the Borgata, It's off the boardwalk in the marina, but it's newer, really nice and has lots of great restaurants and a couple of clubs. There is a brand new resort called the Revel opening soon that is supposed to be incredible, but I don't think it's opening until May.

  • I am from NJ, so I will be honest--It's no Vegas. I don't frequent there much. (when you live close to something, its no big deal/don't appreciate it) It's been YEARS since I've gone down there, so I can't say how much it's improved or downward spiraled. Nor can I comment on how the restaurants are, etc. I believe the newest/nicest hotel/casino/spa is The Borgota. You might want to do some homework on that. That's the casino you hear the most Ads for, in terms of night life, celebrity shows and concerts, etc. I agree with Starryeyed...some areas surrounding the casino district are shady. (at least they were, last I knew) But if you're just looking for a fun quick weekend, you'll probably have a good time. But do not go there thinking it's Vegas--you will surely be setting yourself up for disappointment. **I was born & raised in NJ, about 90 minutes north of AC. After we grew up, and my parents wanted to retire...They moved to Vegas. Does that tell you anything?! Lol. :)

Hmm okay doesn't sound like that fun of a trip in that case since we're going to be wherever we go for the better part of a week and would probably want to venture out a little bit to do other things.

Gonna keep brainstorming.  We have more to spend if the place doesn't have gambling since then that budget could go towards the trip.  Might just end up in Vegas lol.

  • Jersey girl here too!! And AC is really no Vegas, have to agree.  But like the other posters said, Borgata is really the nicest place to stay in AC.  Some really good restaurants, the Old Homestead is an awesome steakhouse!  Some good clubs there too.  Tropicana is nice too, not "upscale" but some fun bars/clubs/restaurants too. A lot of shopping there too to wander around.
I'm about 2 hours from AC and DH & I hit there about twice a year, just as an overnight getaway.  There is really great outlet shopping in AC too, right outside the casino/boardwalk area, and not too seedy.

  • H and I were there twice this last week, it's definitely not Vegas but we still had a lot of fun because we LOVE to gamble!

We chose to stay in cheaper hotels mainly because we only really cared about gambling, not so much the rooms. We stayed at the Showboat the first time then the ACH the second time. The ACH is definitely a lot nicer than the first, both are on the Boardwalk. We really liked walking around the Boardwalk too, it's nice out there and I know it's even better when the weather heats up like in the spring and summer, it gets busier. The shopping in the area is quite nice too, they have an outlet there if you and your W are into that and it's tax free since it's NJ!

Like PPs said Borgata is the nicest hotel there but it's way off the Boardwalk though, kinda like how the Palms is from the Strip, maybe even further. The CP there isn't as nice as the one in Vegas but it's nicer than other hotels and it's right in the middle of the Boardwalk so it's a great location. Gambling was fun there too.
  • Im from NYC but go to AC every month as it is close. Like PP, it is NOOOOOO Vegas. I stay no more than 1 day over night. There is nothing to do but go to the casino and now that there are some competing casinos in the area, its not AS popular as it was. I go because I get to stay for free with Total Rewards and its a cheap short get away.
My opinion is, if you are not from the area, it more than likely shouldnt be your vacation location. The hotels, nightlife, restaurants, etc, do not compare to Vegas. I know you didnt ask for a comparison th Vegas, but I always tell friends that if you been to Vegas, you wont find AC too exciting. Its my second home but I had to be honest.

  • Oh yea..I forgot. Anywhere on the boardwalk is cool, but if you want Luxury try Borgata which is a bit of a distance from boardwalk. Like PP, the area surrounding the boardwalk is sketchy. I dont travel it alone at night, not that comfortable with company either
