Catholic ceremony - no mass - how long?

Hello All,

FI and I are in the beginning stages of planning our wedding for next summer. One thing I am very interested in is planning so that our OOT guest don't have to experience to large of a gap. How long will the ceremony be without a mass? I assume about 20 minutes.

Our priest told us that our wedding mass would be about an hour and than that adding communino only added about 15 - 20 minutes to the service. I would plan for at least 40 to 45 minutes for a ceremony without mass.

45mins to an hour, as others have said.

if you are just starting to plan, get the times your church can do weddings, and then select a reception location that will allow you to start your reception immediately. you should avoid having a gap other than for travel time between church adn reception.

Thanks for all the info guys. Our ceremony will be at 2:00 and our reception location allows us to start at anytime. I had originally told her about 4:00pm and she said that was fine (she also said that starting earlier was fine too).

I honestly had no idea that the ceremony without a mass would take that long. I will be sure to speak to our Father about times and such when we see him again.

Just know that if ya'll are both baptized Catholic most priests will require a full mass.

For us thats the reason for no mass - FI is Catholic and I am not.

At our parish it's 30-45 minutes without communion. It depends on how many attendants they had to walk up there, how long the readings were, how long the songs are, whether or not all of the songs are sung or are parts just being spoken (like the Responsorial Psalm).

In some parishes, if you are both Catholic, they don't require you to have a mass either... it's your choice. However, if you either one of you are not Catholic, then they do discourage you from having a mass.

I think it depends on the readings and number of people in your wp. Just ask your church and they should be able to give you a better estimate.
