Dresses

Kater99 asked when everyone was going to start trying on dresses!

For me, I'll probably wait until next year that way it is year away and be able to get more time to get into shape!

I tried on a couple of dresses only because I had like ZERO interest in a dress especially a white one and I was dreading it so I thought I would try it. It was not so bad and ivory does not look bad on me.  I have no interest in buying one now but at least now I can say I am excited for it.  My fiance is more int othe dress than I am.  I am trying to loose weight as well about 80pounds... so far I have lost 15 so 65 more to go!!
  • I will probably start trying dresses on next spring or summer. I would like to have mine ordered by December of 2011. I am also trying to lose about 30 pounds, for overall health-- but the dress is good motivation.  ;)  So that will give me plenty of time to lose the weight. I hope to reach my goal by the fall so that we can do engagement pictures. :)

I am sort of taking him with me.. we look at ones we like together in magazines so we know we will both like it.  On the day I actually go to get the dress, which will probably be around October 2011 he will go with me and pick out a couple of dresses he likes and then leave.  He will NOT see me try them on nor will he know which one I choose.  SO he will help pick it out but it will be a surprise!

  • That is a good idea!

Does anyone have any favorites they're looking at right now?  Mine is Fiorella by Maggie Sottero!  I've been eying her for the past few months!

I've been waiting to look at dresses in earnest as well, btu its hard to resist. There is cute little bridal boutique that i drive passed everyday going to and from work. So i decided to stop in one day when i couldn't help myself. I'm in the same boat, trying to lose about 20 lbs. before the wedding, but i think i at least know what style I'm looking for.

**So long little Ms. ...Hello Mrs.**
  • My BF hasn't officially proposed yet (but I have a feeling that something may happen on our anniversary--fingers crossed!), so I won't try on anything until after he proposes, and 9 months before the wedding at the latest.

    @bblouin:   That dress is STUNNING!!!

  • I really want to try on dresses. And I'm quite happy with my weight and I wouldn't want to lose more than 5 lbs before the wedding anyway, so this doesn't help me...

I may just try some on in a few months. But I don't want to buy anything before next summer.

I love strapless lace dresses like Maggie Sottero Mirabella or Charlotte

    or this casablanca dress.

But I might get something more fitted. Not A-line but more of a mermaid dress.

  • chels31691, thank you! I love that dres also, I have not seen it in person though but it is definetely what I am looking for!
  • I know it's early but I am SUPER excited to start trying on dresses!  I'm really picky when it comes to stuff like this so I will need almost a year to try on dresses at my leisure and find the right one without it becoming stressful.  A lot of my family thinks I'm crazy for already looking but I dont care!  I already took one quick trip to David's just to get an idea of what looks good on my and what styles really do not compliemtn my figure.  That was the best thing I ever did since I can rule out certain dresses no matter how lovely they are!

I too like the Maggie Sottero and I also really like Da Vinci. So far this is my faves are

What is everyone else looking for?  I'm looking for something more A-line and simple since our wedding is going to be very in formal and casual.  I love the dresses everyone has posted so far!

  • I'm personally a fan of non-white dresses. White looks terrible on me. >.<

I am really a sucker for this blue dress, but I'm afraid it'll be too expensive. TAT

Anything else you ladies have seen along these lines?

  • Stargirl, I love those Maggie Sottero dresses! I'm looking at Maggie Sottero dresses as well. I love a dropped waist/A line dress. I'll probably start looking next March or so.

  • well you all may laugh at me, but i already bought my dress. (it makes me feel dumb to say it lol)

when i first got engaged, all of my friends were really excited about going dress shopping and i thought why not just go try some on, it can't hurt anything.

so i went to 3 different bridal salons over the course of a 4 or 5 moths with my friends, mom and sister and tried on LOTS of dresses. at the third salon i saw a dress on a mannequin and wanted to try it on. I immediatley got the feeling that it was "the one" once the sales lady had helped me into it. My mom was almost in tears after i put it on and i was sooo in love with it!

Not wanting to make any decision too quickly, i took a long time to think about it. we went on vacation for a couple of weeks, i came home, thought about it some more, went back to the bridal shop where i had found my dress and made myself try on quite a few more dresses. they had just gotten some in so i tested those out. none of the other dresses were really doing anything for me.. i'd always say the same thing "it's really pretty but..." ha ha ha!

another reason for going ahead and purchasing the gown is that i don't believe i'll be able to find anything like it next year when i actually wanted to start thinkingabout purchasing a dress. i had them order it in a size bigger than what i was measured at, plus i am a runner and run half marathons quite a bit..so needless to say i'm *hoping* that i don't gain any weight!!  i plan on having it altered a few months before my wedding :)

    it's by Justin Alexander :)

  • I too have already bought my dress. I have been engaged for two years now, & when we FINALLY set our wedding date a few months ago, I got excited all over again and began looking at thousands of dresses online. I fell in love with one, and after considering it for a while I ordered it. My weight does not fluctuate, I've pretty much been the same weight for the last ten years, so, my only worry is that I'm going to end up getting pregnant before my wedding...lol.
