Help with dates

I'm marrying into a Chinese family and don't understand all the customs. My fianc and I want to get married in October 2013, which is the 9th lunar month. My fianc's parents say that we can't get married in the 9th lunar month, but are unable to explain why not. Does anyone know why? Also, does anyone know if there are lucky dates in October 2013? Thanks!

Re: Help with dates

  • It probably has to do with your and your FI's birthdates and zodiacs. I'm also planning a wedding next fall and this site has been very helpful: http://7des7iny.wordpress.com/2011/11/30/auspicious-wedding-dates-in-october-2013/

If you browse through the rest of the site, you'll find lots of info on finding lucky days based on you and your FI's birthdates and what days to avoid. Hope this helps!

  • I'm not exactly sure but I think it is something about the spirits are allowed to roam earth, sorta like Halloween? and it is bad luck to get married during this time.
  • The ghost month is the 7th month of the Lunar calendar, normally falling in August on the Gregorian calendar. It definitely won't be the 9th lunar month though so I'm not sure why they reject that. In fact, I may even have my wedding during October 2013...

Try googling "auspicious Chinese wedding dates 2013" and a whole bunch of sites will come up with both Gregorian and Lunar dates, what day of the week. It will also list what sign is not good for that day.

If all else fails and they refuse, try picking a "neutral" date with them (something that is not particulary auspicious or inauspicious) but remember, they will vehemently reject a truly inauspicious date. Yep, we're a superstitious bunch lol.
  • Does any one know any resources to dates 2014 as well? My fiance and I just got engaged this month (October) and we too are looking at dates in Sep/Oct 2013 and possibly in Spring/Summer 2014. But it's been hard to find any sources for 2014 dates.

    Thank you.
