Dying a dress?

One of my co-workers wants to get  white dress dyed, and asked me where she could go to get that done. I have no idea -- anyone have any insight? She already called David's!

washer set to hot with an article of clothing that is the color she wants the dress?

I never heard of dying dresses. I am guessing the dress only comes in white?

Is she crafty?  You can buy fabric dye at JoAnn's and DIY.  Rit is supposedly good to use (not that I have tried it before).

It's a bridesmaids dress she wore a few years ago (it's white, the bride wore color) -- she's hesitant to dye it herself, although that was my recommendation!

Was it expensive? If not, and if she's crafty I would go with Hilary's suggestion.
I would be good at dying it pink ;)

She may have to call dry cleaners or tailor/seamstress to see if they do it.  I don't have any specific recs.

i used RIT to dye my couch covers the other weekend... i used the laundry machine method and it was super easy, everything came out great.... although i think it depends on the fabric, mine were cotton (and it DID NOT dye the zipper or the fabric attached to the zipper so beware of that with your dresses!)

As pp said, material is an important factor when coloring fabric. Not all materials take dye evenly or at all. I would check out some local bridal salons and see if they have any suggestions. If they can color shoes, maybe they're able to help?
