Doing your own make up?

Wanted to see what you other ladies were doing, using a make up artist or going DIY for your makeup? Also, what sort of prices have you been quoted? I'm currently on the fence.

I used a MUA.  First, I don't normally wear much make-up and I'm not good at doing it.  Second, I didn't want to deal with the stress.  I used SERAi for both hair and make-up.  I was super happy with the results.  You can flip through their "before and after" of trials on their facebook page.  I also consider Sara's Glam Squad, but they wanted to charge extra because it was just me.

I rarely wear make up except for a oil free tinted moisturizer with an spf or B.B cream - to help hide blemishes and old acne scars. So I didn't really trust myself to do my own make up. I know with digital photography the flaws are a bit more obvious. I didn't want to look washed out or shiny (my t-zone gets oily) so the right make up application was also important. I ended up going on a couple of not so successful trials before I met Sara Faella. She helped me create a flawless natural look with air brush make up (foundation) for my wedding day. Her glammies were also amazing. Doing my own make up would mean I'd have to splurge on products I would not normally use and learn how to create my own wedding day look - it was just too stressful for me. My cousin who was married last year did her own make up but she is just obsessed with beauty products and is really talented with make up so she did her own make up for her wedding day and looked great. So it really depends on the person and their comfort level/skill.

I'm with the ladies above.  I wear makeup maybe 3-4 times a year when I go to a fancy restaraunt or a wedding, etc.  It comes out ok, but not great.  My MOH has been in several other weddings and told me the one time she did her own makeup (which she never wears regularly), it was obvious in the photos that it wasn't well done.

I finally booked with Serai this week.  I had tried reaching out to Jennifer Hodge and Kristin Greene previously, but one never responded, and the other confirmed she had my date available but stopped responding when I had some questions.  I checked out Sara Faella, but her pricing is a bit steep and she requires both the bride and MOB to have trials.  My mom lives out of state, so that would be a hassle, plus more money to spend.  Serai got back to me very quickly and answered all of my questions thoroughly.  I was also very impressed with the before and after pictures.  Every MUA website has lovely after pictures, but seeing before shots of "regular" woimen with blemishes, etc really made an impact.  I feel good about my choice and I'm looking forward to working with them.

I'm going with a MUA also...We did a lot of looking around before deciding on which one to go with.  When all was said and done between trials, day-of, and travel costs, the costs were comparable.  It was more than I expected, but I asked arounf and ALL of the brides that responded to my post on TK mentioned how worth it they had felt it was on their wedding day.

I did my own makeup. I'm allergic to a lot of different products, and since via trial and error I know what I can and can't use on a daily basis, I decided to just amp that up a bit rather than take chances with a makeup artist.  It wasn't really that difficult, and I saved a ton of money by doing it!

make-up artist is the way to go.  I was a wedding planner for years and it takes a lot of stress off the bride.
