Bride vs. Cake Lady

Well maybe not that dramatic.  My wedding cake is included in the price of the reception, but only if you use their featured vendor.  The problem is the cake lady has zero customer service skills, often double booking appointments and juggling two brides at the same time.  I just don't feel comfortable using this baker for my cake.  When I arrived at my appointment to order my cake, there was another bride cutting into my appointment who had no signs of leaving.  I was so flustered and annoyed I just ordered the first cake I saw.  Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't give this woman my business, but since the cake is included I feel like I can't walk away.  Would it be inappropriate to ask the reception venue to deduct the cost of the cake so that I can go to a vendor that I am more comfortable with?

I wanted to do othe same thing with my reception place and they were happy to do it, the problem was that they would only give me a credit of $1.50 per person. It sucked. So the credit I got would not equal the cost of a new cake from another place... it wouldn't hurt to ask and see what they are willing to do.

You can ask, but I'm not sure that it will get you anywhere.  My cake was included in my catering contract, too, and I would have had to pay an extra cake-cutting fee to bring in another cake, with no price change for not using their cake vendor.  I'm not saying that you shouldn't try, but just to keep your expectations reasonable.

It couldn't hurt to at least talk to them about it, so that they know this lady isn't doing a very good job (maybe they will end up switching their preferred baker if enough people complain).

I agree, you should at least let your venue know that this vendor is acting unprofessionally!

Maybe first, try making another appointment with the cake lady. As her when her non-peak times are to meet with her. Maybe the time that you met with her that she was just as flustered as you were with the other bride being there and not having any intention to leave.

And if then the lady still doesnt show you the customer service that you deserve then go to the venue and explain that you have met with her twice and still don't feel comfortable. Showing that you've made the effort give her a second chance shows that you are trying to make the best out of the situation you have

I believe in customer service as a number one! I think it refelects badly on not only the cake person, but on the venue itself since this is a "preferred" vendor. You might want to raise this point to your venue if they are not willing to work with you.

You shouldn't be worried about your cake on the day of. You should only be focused on your day! Stand up for yourself! You can do it!

It all just depends what your venue will credit you, whether or not it would be reasonable. Like a PP said, she would only have gotten 1.50 back per person which, unless you get super lucky like I did you're going to end up paying well above what you were initially.

It wont hurt to ask, but keep it reasonable. If it's in your budget to pay above and beyond for the cake, goa head but I do agree that you should perhaps make another attempt with the cake lady at nonpeak times. Perhaps it was just a bad day?
