Bridesmaid Dilemma

Hello ladies,

I am having HUGE issues when it comes to the selection of my bridesmaids. I have a big family and  eight (yes eight) of the 12 people I have listed to ask to be bridesmaids are BLOOD RELATED....le sigh....the other four are 3 best friends (we have been friends since 1985) and 1 is a close sorority sister. I have sat down and dissected my list to see who I could really not have as a bridesmaid (most of my BMs are already married and I was in their weddings) and I am having no luck. We are inviting 300 people and I know that wedding etiquette says that you should have 1 bm for every 50 guests you have so that would mean I would have to have no more than six...I just need opinions and ideas...My sister went through the same dilemma and she had 11 BMs. Should I just stick with my BMs since over half of them are family and only 4 I am not related to?

    I had the same "dilemma" and decided my relationships with these people were far more important than any rule. I also have a large family and close friends as well. I ended up with 12 BMs and a guest list of 230. I just felt it wasn't worth anyone second guessing how important they are to me.

    Agreed.. I have 8 bridesmaids for a wedding of 300. You can have as many as you want. I got to a point where I couldn't cut any one else.  I'm happy. There are no "rules" that you need to follow in my opinion.  Whoever you want and are close to is should you have... whether it's 1 or 12 :)  Good luck!

    Well thanks for all your ideas ladies!! I am uber excited to say I have kep all of my BMs!! We will only have 10 groomsmen so my MH's will not have escorts...they will be ok though!

    there is a general emily post "rule" but it really comes down to who you want standing there with you.


    One of our groomsmen is a women. 

    Its your wedding, cut any of them you don't feel like you couldnt possibly live without and dont worry about hard feelings if a smaller party is your prefrence, or have 20 BMs if thats your thing.
