Hi all, I'm new first post here,

We were out for our 10 yr anni as boyfriend and girlfriend and we came back home I remembered I had to put the garbage out so I raced upstairs to pee first then I got all the little garbage bags out the bins from upstairs ready to take outside and there he was in the lounge on his knee suited and booted in a grey suit, sneakers and shirt to match the gray box and white gold 18k princess cut
e-ring (I still drool when I look at it) he said.. "well put the trash down and come here then"Embarassed by this time I had my fluffy slippers and hair tied up ready to tackle the trash can lol, I felt like I had ruined it until I found this thread! I can laugh about it now but at the time I thought geesh lets press rewind and stumble into the door kissing instead of me thinking about taking the trash out! DOH!

My fiance proposed to me ONSTAGE at the opera.  He had just finished singing the title character in THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO (I'm not making this up).  He got me hired to sing a small role at the last minute, and then popped the big question at the end.  I have a video to prove it!!!!

• It's official as of yesterday!

I think mine is kinda funny.

We've been talking about getting married for a while(we're together for almost 8 years).  SO wanted to wait for a little longer but I couldn't wait so I kinda kept bugging him about getting married.  We had already started planning before actually "engaged" (read: no ring yet lol).

As I researched for the wedding, once in a while I'd sneak a peek at the engagement rings and talk to him about it.  I'm not into the conventional engagement rings (large diamond rings etc) so I tell him what I like or don't like.  Then this past Wednesday he actually told me that he had 2 rings he is deciding on and started talking to me about it.  I laughed at him saying he shouldn't be discussing this with me!

Anyways after that I had assumed he wasn't going to propose until many weeks later because he made me believed that he hasn't gotten anything yet.

Then yesterday morning just as I was changing out of my pajamas my SO walked to the changing room and handed me a beanie bear that has a red rose in an arm (I had JUST put on my shirt, otherwise I'd be standing with my pajama pants and bra lol) and said "I have something for you!"  My SO has a tendency to just give me stuffed bears (I have so many from him) so I was very confused staring at the bear in my hand thinking what was the occasion.  While I was still staring at the bear he came over again and took out a reddish looking box and then knelt down in front of me.  I can't remember what he said just that I said "Oh thank you!"  (That's how I react when someone gives me something, I wasn't sure what to say then lol)  And then he was like "so is that a yes?"  And I nodded with a huge smile on my face.  Then he went on and explained to me what the ring meant (it's a heart shaped gemstone of my birthstone with two small diamonds on each side).

It totally caught me off guard LOL  But I'm finally engaged!!
• We had dated back in high school & spent 22 years apart living our seperate lives. Then 9 months ago I got a message from him on Myspace. We have been inseperable ever since. We spend alot of time with my parents as I come from a very tight knit family. 14 years ago my stepdad proposed to my mom on April Fools Day. So this year on April Fools Day we were having dinner with my parents which is not at all unusual. Just as we were sitting down to eat he looks at me a little teary eyed. Then he pulls this huge pink box out and asks me to marry him. He opens the box and there is a huge (like giant!) pink glass heart shaped ring. Because of the ring and the fact that it was April 1st I wasn't sure how to react. I laughed. Pretty hard. Then he looked at me with that "I completely and totally love you" look in his eyes. My parents started asking me if I was going to give him an answer!!! I said yes of course!!!! It was definitely memorable and the big pink ring will forever have a place in my heart!!!

We are planning on a summer 2011 wedding.

• oh wow Carrie0831, that video was possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen, haha!
• well backgroud: i live in sc and he lives in ma and he came to visit me for a month at my parents house. we had to stay in different rooms since my dad's a preacher. we were at the computer and he said he had somthing to give me. so he went back to his room and came back he then knelt down and asked me, i said yes and that lasted about an hour. He then asked for the ring back!! a couple weeks later we were watching a movie in his room and he stoped the movie, he said he asked for the ring back because he did want to be engaged yet, and just gave it to me to shut me up. so by now im trying to get away from him and crying. he then got the ring from his suit case and said thats why i want to give it to you now. will you be my wife?  so needless to say, we argued about it and he kept saying he planed on arguing with me. Is it okay to say i want another different purposal??

• I am jealoous!!!!

My guy never proposed to me. We started the fiance visa process so it was kind of assumed that we were getting married. He paid for a ring and I picked it up from the store and the big question was never asked. We have everything set for our wedding in 5 months so I don't think he believes that there is a need for him to propose at this point or any time before the wedding.

I always dreamed to have the perfect, thoughtful proposal but it never happened. Guess he just doesn't understand how important it is for me, oh well!
It upsets me but guess it is not the most important part of the equation. :(
• We had just gotten home from work and getting the kids from my mom's and I was so tired and a little aggravated at my Fi (boyfriend at the time). We had been talking about getting engaged and so forth but it was always a money issue. I just shrugged it off for a while but I just couldn't hold my tongue anymore, so I laid into him, fussing and griping about how all I want is a REAL proposal, I don't need a ring, I have plenty of rings, I just want to be his wife, blah blah blah. Well the whole time we were getting ready to go to his parent's house so he showered first and then I showered. Well when I got out the shower I went over to him to apologize for being so bitchy and he just kind of ignored me so I went back into the bathroom to get dressed and cry for being so bitchy, and he knocked on the door, I opened the door expecting him to be standing there and immediately looked up ( he's a good 4-5 inches taller than me) but nope he was down on one knee with an empty ring box. I slammed the door in his face!!! I kept opening and closing the door in his face and asking him are you for real? Like for real for real? lol I just started crying, I said yes and then he asked me why I was crying and I said, well I wish I wouldn't have been naked for this! lololol
• My fiance and I had been talking for a long time about getting engaged, but I knew it was going to be coming soon when he started sending pictures of rings to me. I was just about to return home for Winter Break from college, and the day after I got back, he had the ring. I didn't know this, but that night we watched a movie and I needed to destress after finals. I did so by popping open 2 bottles of wine, and I drank myself silly. The holidays are hard on me especially after my parents split up, and I laid down on his bed and began to pout. He cheered me up by talking about how I thought I wanted to be proposed to. I told him to give me some options, and one was, "how about in a restaurant?" I told him that I thought that was so overdone and super lame, and then he got really quiet... He then popped off of his bed and said, "Stay here, I have something to show you." He walked over and picked up a little red bag from behind his bowling equipment in the basement. He pulled out a little red box and then walked towards me. I was super drunk still, and all I can remember is saying "Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God..." I remember him getting down on his knee and just blurting out "Holy $#!^!" I don't even remember him asking me to marry him, or saying yes. Makes me sad, but everyone thinks it's pretty funny. He said that he did ask me and I did say yes, and I believe I did. I just wish he would have picked a better time than my first day home after the finals week from hell! We even went to the restaurant that he was going to propose to me at and it was the most romantic meal ever. Darn...LOL!
• We took a trip to New Orleans (he is from there) with a few of our friends on Halloween weekend. We had walked around the French Quarter all day and were walking along the river. We stopped to watch some street performers and when they were done, we started to take pictures with St. Louis Cathedral in the background.

Our friends were taking our picture when he turned and got on one knee (our friends were in on it). I thought he was kidding so I pushed him and told him to cut it out. Then I saw the ring. So our friends and all the other tourists watching were laughing at my reaction. I was so surprised that I forgot to say yes and I was so embarrassed that I hid my face in his shoulder. I hate surprises.

• Well mine wasn't really embarrassing but more funny. It was halloween day and i was dressed as a bee. When I got to my boyfriends house his mom was outside with the video camera which I thought was quite odd but she started saying things like "Oh you're so cute.. I just wanted to get you on film all dressed up.." my boyfriend was supposed to be dressed as a ninja(haha) and as his mother is following me to the door my boyfriend opens it in a suit holding a poem that he had written when he was about seven that was all about how he loves different kinds of bee's. After I read it he told me to turn it around and on the back it said "will you bee my wife?" and as I looked up my boyfriend was on one knee with the biggest and most beautiful diamond ring I had ever seen. I said "yes" and the water works started but the first thing I said was "I should have done my nails!" which must have been the emotions talking! haha I was super surprised since I'm a snooper and always find my gifts and surprises but this was one I did not find partly because he wasn't going to ask me until that christmas but could not wait any longer. Although my fiance and I are high school sweet hearts I wasn't expecting a proposal for a few more years.. It was perfect and sweet, like destiny he knew he'd be marrying a bee even at seven years old.. Laughing
• Ours was kind of...interesting.  We broke up for a little while back in August but we got back together and he hit the ground running with sending me emails about weddings and rings and dresses, etc.  He took me shopping for a ring and I found THE RING.  I went back to check on it a few weeks later and it was GONE! I was convinced that someone else had bought it but deep down inside I was hoping that he did.  I had originally told him that I didn't want him to do it on my birthday or Christmas or any holiday because I wanted it to be a day special all for its own right.  He never really listens so every occasion I found myself secretly hoping that he didn't listen this time either.  My birthday came and went. Then we went to visit my family for Christmas and he was asking me all sorts of wierd questions so it made me think that maybe it would happen then.  Nope.  Anniversary? Nope. Valentines day? Nope.  I was starting to get discouraged...

He had gone out of town for 3 weeks before his relocation (he's in the Military and got orders across the country) and we had been arguing, most likely due to the stress of our situation.  When he got back we got into a HUGE argument about stupid crap like 5 days after he returned home.  I left and spent the night at a friends house to let him cool off.  The next morning he sent me a text that said "make sure you do your hair before you go to school. and don't pick up anything to eat" So I was very confused.

I return home from school around 930pm and I walked up the stairs to our 3rd story apartment.  The second set of stairs had been lined with tealight candles and all the way down the hallway to our door.  There was a hanger on the doorknob with a dress and a pair of shoes and a note that said "STOP! Put this on. I will explain."  So I changed in the middle of the hallway and went inside. The entire living room and kitchen was filled with more candles and pink/orange rose petals all over the floor. Dinner was all set up with candles and wine (he HATES wine so this was a big deal for him. haha)  We sat down and were eating and talking about things.  At this point I wasn't expecting anything along the lines of a proposal...I just thought that he was trying to make up for our argument that we got into since he usually does things like that when he's messed up (and of course this argument was his fault,  too...haha).

We got to talking and I just broke down and told him I couldn't take it anymore and I had one foot out the door.  If things didn't start working themselves out then I couldn't stay in the relationship, yada yada.  Things got very emotional and I just blurted out "I can't even THINK about a propsal right now.  I thought that if you ever asked me I'd immediately say yes, but things have gotten so stressful that I don't know anymore".  WHOOPS!

He got very sad and I just told him that I didn't feel secure about our relationship sometimes because he never shares his feelings with me, yada yada so I never knew where he stood or what he felt.  So he said "well, can I show you once and for all how I feel?"  And I said "Um, sure?"  Thinking he was going to like take me into the bedroom...hah  But he stood up and went over to our laptop in the living room and turned on music.  He asked me if I wanted to dance, which was unexpected in itself because whenever I would see people on TV or the movies dancing in their living room I would always say that it was adorable and he would say that it was lame or stupid.  But we danced to one song and then "our song" came on and I started to cry...When it was over he said some schpeel about how he didn't want to move to California without me but he didn't want me to go as just his girlfriend.  Then he got down on his knee and asked me to be his fiancee.  It was super sweet and VERY unexpected.

I felt so awful because I felt like I ruined it for him with what I said earlier in the night because I saw the discouragement on his face, but I guess he really just saw through my frustration.  I'm really glad that he went through with his plan and asked me anyway because I have never been happier. :]
• My fiance took me skiing for the first time ever when he proposed. I didn't see it coming. So after taking me through a ton of bunny hills I finally braved it on the ski lift to the top. He told me to go check out the map to make sure we didn't end up going down a black diamond or something. So I went over there. I guess he was heading over with me and purposely crossed his skis so he would fall down. Of course I didn't see any of this elaborate fall. So he calls me over to help him up to which I replied "Get up yourself" and turned back around to check where we are going. Lol. He pretended like he got hurt but couldn't talk too loud because one of the ski patrol guys was close to us. So I finally head over and he grabs my Right hand and tells me how he isn't hurt and all this beautiful stuff about how much he loves me and asks me to marry him. To which I replied "Are you kidding?!" I couldn't see the ring in his hand because he had his big ski gloves on. So he squishes his glove down a little so i can see the ring and that's when I started squeeling and shouting "OMG yes! OMG yes!!" Of course I had to point out he had the wrong hand.

He loves telling everyone that I told him to get up himself when they ask how he proposed.
• Mines not embarrasing i just feel really guilty about it......

So we were supposed to go for a walk around this state park near where he lives, (i had only just arrived in the states so i just assumed he was showing me a bit or rural south georgia) and anyway its started to rain, like ridiculous amount ...i love therain i just didnt see why he would want to go walking muddy trails in the rain,so im bitching about him(infront of him) on the phone to my friend saying hes an idiot andwhy culdnt we just stay in...and the whole drive there (45 mins) im bitching and moaning and bitching and moaning.....and then we get to this dock thing over looking the water  and he knelt down, in the mud and everything and asked me then, i started crying cos i felt so guilty...and then obv i said yes lol

honestly im notusually a bitch.....but he LOVES to tell everyone that story lol
• haha these stories are all awesome :)

Mine can be funny, depending on how I tell it but it was an interesting day...

So my fiance is not great at surprising me as I can always tell when he's hiding something from me (and constant calls from my mom were a bit of a tip-off as well!). So the morning of the proposal, I woke up and looked at my left ring finger, figuring that by the same the next day, I'd have a ring on it.

He was working that day as well, so I just chilled out at my house and at some point, I decided to make some Top Ramen soup. As I was sitting down on the couch with the bowl, I grabbed a pillow to put the hot bowl on and my dog got excited as some spilled onto it. He bumped it and dumped some out on my leg and for some strange reason, I freaked out and emptied the rest of contents on the same spot! I was in complete burning agony for about 2 hours waiting for him to get off work and when he came by my house, he helped me treat it and fix it up.

I then put on a cute dress, once again because I figured we might get engaged that day, but then he kept throwing me off. We ran by a casino to place a bet for his out-of-town brother (we live in Vegas lol) and then he was hungry, so he grabbed some fast food and suggested we eat it at a park. The park we went to was the same one where we first hung out, just the two of us so it has always has some special meaning for us.

Just as we were approaching it, a nearby elementary school was getting out so we were weaving around kids while trying to find a bench to sit at and once we did, I began to seat myself and he began to sit down too, but at the last second, he turned to face me, pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him...with the most nervous tone of voice! I smiled wide and said YES and hugged him, all the while secretly happy he didn't get on one knee with all the children around. The ring is beautiful (I basically picked it out) but it was a size too big so that was a little bummer, but nevertheless, we ran around to show some friends and family and made lots and lots of calls that evening :)
I lost my job at the end of the school year and I had spent every day all summer long looking for a new one.  When Chad came home from work, I was once again at the computer and totally frustrated.  He spun my chair around and gave me a big hug and then got down on one knee and handed me...a packet of Taco Bell hot sauce that said, "Will you marry me?"  I laughed so hard, I couldn't even say yes!
Posted by skyblonde
This made me so happy because that's pretty much how my fiance asked me :]] On our first date he took me out to a movie and then after driving around our boring town for hours we decided to be rebels and get taco bell cause I wasn't allowed to eat it. (i was sixteen and a dancer on a very strict diet.) So we were eating taco bell and one of the hot sauce packets said "Will you marry me?" on it and we laughed about it and thought it was funny cause it was our first date.

Now fast forward a bit. We're walking around downtown and we pick up some gyros and head over to the bay to eat. We're sitting there talking and he says, "You know what would be great with these? HOT SAUCE!" And me being mexican said heck yes it would because I love hot sauce and then he whips out the packet from taco bell. The packet from our first date. It was absolutely perfect. :]]

• I actually don't remember a word he said to me haha. He had been acting really weird all day...I got to his house after work and he hands me a warm beer (how romantic) then asks if I want to go down to the water. We get down to the water and he asks if I love him, then gets down on one knee, opens the box, starts talking.....and I don't remember anything. I was giggling like an idiot, just in shock, and I said, "Are you serious? Is this  real?" He replies "yes Brooke this is for real I'm asking you to marry me" and that was it. When we were walking back to his house to show his parents, I asked him what he said, he didn't even remember but knew he got down on one knee.
• My h2b proposed in his own sweet way the day following one of THE biggest arguements of our relationship! I had been off sick from work for the day and had managed to make myself slightly presentable and get dinner started for when he got in from work.

He came through the door and went straight into the bedroom. 2 minutes later he called me so I came out of the kitchen (pot of rice in hand) to be greeted by a box flying towards me, it wasnt until I put the rice down and picked up the box that I knew it was an engagement ring! The excitement took over and after saying yes the next hour went by in a blur.

The following day, whilst in bed, he told me to stand up and then got down on one knee, took off my ring and asked me again, quoting him, "in the proper way".
