Light gray suits = too trendy?

So, I'm getting married in August (Maine, evening, near the ocean, but not on the beach), and I was thinking of having the guys wear light gray suits like this: http://www.indochino.com/product/The-Essential-Gray-Suit. However, FI says that light gray is too "trendy" and isn't formal enough for an evening wedding. I think charcoal or black is going to be too dark (http://www.indochino.com/product/The-Essential-Charcoal-Suit) for the summer. Plus, the girls are all in pastels. What do you all think?

Re: Light gray suits = too trendy?

  • Well, I wasn't going to tell FI what he could/couldn't wear, so he has chosen to wear a light gray suit at our 6:00pm, outdoor, summer wedding. He hasn't tried anything on yet, so he may go a little darker, but idk. I would prefer if he wore a darker gray, like charcoal, but I want him to be happy in what he's wearing so I don't care that much. So to answer your question, it definitely is less formal (which is why I wish FI would go darker) but I think it would be fine, and I don't think that the color is trendy. I like what PPs said about a darker suit with a pastel tie.
