Band versus DJ

I'm having trouble trying to determine which would be best for our reception. I would like to have a violinist playing during the cocktail hour. We are having a decent sized wedding with a variety of ages and I just don't know which is the better option. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

    I just prefer bands. It seems like they get more of the older and younger crowd ready to dance. A lot of the DJ weddings I have been too only appeal to the younger crowd. Bands are more expensive though so you have to consider that also. We went with the band, Soulution, out of Greenville. They were really good and everyone raved about them (young and older). Guests even went to Fall for Greenville the next day to see them play again.

    Band, all the way.  We had an 8 piece big band and they were worth every penny.  Fairly reasonable, too (about $3500 for a 4 hour reception).  Of all the weddings that I've been to, the ones that had a band are the best.
