Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

How about MORE affordable reception venues in Mpls/St Paul area?

I am from Plymouth and FI is from Center City, looking to have about 200 people (possibly 250) and do the entire wedding under $10k.

Would love a reception venue that does it's own catering and doesn't require a lot of outside vendors.  Open to anywhere within a 50 mile range of the cities but prefer to go NW, NE or E of the cities.

Thanks ladies!

This is in the West side of St. Paul, but it doesn't hurt to look into.  We are having our reception here.  The most affordable place we found and it does everything.  Decor, catering, etc.

Three River Park District has several ceremony and reception sites that come in with really low rental fees and your choice of outside caterers. I belive someone on our forum is having their wedding at Elm Creek Park Reserve. That is a site I seriously considered also.

As far the northwest areas, I did some looking in Plymouth, Maple Grove and a little more north of there. Really, there aren't a ton of affordable options I found for your guest list size, which is about what mine will be.

Someone mentioned the elm Creek Chalet, which is awesome, but you do have to have a lot of your own vendors/work for that one.

Sundance lanes or something like that in North Maple Grove. Cheaper, we went in and took a look, and- ugh. not impressed.

Links at Northfork in ramsey is where I am having mine. 5000 food and bev minimum (850 of that is the saturday room rental fee) and I will be choosing a less expensive entree and expect to come in around that or a little more depending on attendance. Also, the coordinator is great there.

There is another one I glanced at, Waterfall View Events in Ramsey- but I didn't look into it too much.

and this one was a bit too far away for us- The refuge golf course in oak grove.

Royal Cliff in Eagan! Look at my married bio for more details! They were one of the least expensive in the south metro area and their food is to die for!

Not sure if it was suggested (I didn't read all the responses) but check out local community centers.  Often the rates are very affordable and you bring your own food and alcohol.

Agree with Royal Cliff... I just started working with them and have never met nicer people!  And the prices are unbeatable.

    Thank you!

I just got an email back from FI's aunt, she manages a restaurant so I will check that out also.

I have been checking out the Wilds Golf Club as well, their facility looks awesome and it doesn't look like there is a facility rental fee!  I think they have a $3500 minimum on Saturdays in the summer but with no facility rental that's a breeze.

Thank you for all of your ideas!

My wedding is at The Wilds! I cannot tell you how AWESOME Shannon and Nancy have been! And a lot of the decor is included! They really do it all and go out of your way to make you happy, and have an amazing wedding!

Just a note... you can save a LOT of money by doing separate caterers and venues, because it gives you greater flexibility and often you avoid minimums and surcharges that way. Is there a particular reason you don't want separate vendors? I totally get it if you just want the simplicity, but that's just a little tip I've come across.

I would try going a little further north like Monticello - once you are outside of the "metro" circle prices drop drastically! I'm in St. Cloud and for a 350 person wedding we're looking at a $13,000 maximum budget andn so far we are under budget!

I'm having mine at Northfork as well!  I was at a wedding there about 10 years ago and I always told myself that is where I am going to have my wedding...funny story, I actually was there again 4 years ago for a wedding and ended up meeting FI...crazy how life works  :)

That's awesome!  I will be interested to see pics of your reception there! Stacy has been great to work with thus far!!

have you done a tasting with wellscatering yet?

Check out Manitou Station in White Bear Lake.  No room rental, no food and beverage minimum, great food, less expensive than many options we looked at.  I'm not sure when you're getting married, but I know that they were considering putting in some of those fees for 2012 but they weren't sure about it yet when I talked to them in January.  Luckily, I'm getting married this October, so no worries!

Yes, she has been extremely helpful!  We did our tasting last month I beleive, we are doing beef/chicken buffet and I was kind of mad that they only had 1 beef option for the buffet, however it is amazing. George at Wells has been really great to work with as well!

Ok I'll come out with it, Shannon is FI's aunt and the "restaurant" is the Wilds restaurant lol.  I wanted to see some unbiased comments on it, I'm glad they were good!  She is pretty awesome in general so I think we'll end up doing it there, he's the oldest of the cousins to get married so it would make sense to do it at the "family" place.

Btw I saw they have some 2011 specials going on since they still have open 2011 wedding dates, if anyone is still considering, when I looked on the website they were including a comped champagne toast and passed apps with a reception booking.

I wanted an all-inclusive reception place because I wanted to keep it simple...I want to DIY a lot of the wedding paper, favors, decorations, etc so the less planning I have to do the better.  I trust my MOH with my life but I don't want to give her a huge list of things to manage on the wedding day...also I'm type A and will freak out about forgetting something so I want to make sure the coordinator at the reception is in charge of a lot of it.

Thank you for all of the good ideas and I will definitely keep checking them out!  Glad to know you can still do it under $10k in the cities!  Although I doubt for $10/head like my parents think lol.
