shower venues near chesapeake

Hey guys! I'm throwing a bridal shower, and since the wedding is going to be formal, I'd really like the bridal shower to be too. (Meaning, I really don't want to have it in someone's living room.) Chesapeake seems to be the best central location, but I don't mind venturing elsewhere... The trouble is, I'm not sure where to even start looking since I'm not from around here.

I'm expecting about 20 guests, and I plan on making my own food and decorations. Cost is an issue, but I'm willing to pay for what I get, ya know?

can anyone help?

Making your own food is probably going to be a problem. Very few places around here let you bring in food, and I would think that goes for a shower as well as anything else.
As far as formal locations go, I would check:
    Regent University/Founder's Inn
    Greenbrier Country Club
    Hotels

I agree...Most places won't let you bring in your own food. How formal are you making it? Will it be banquet style?

I'm not sure how I'm going to do it... I was going to figure out where I'm having it before I decide.

I've thought about bed and breakfasts the most, but I really want tables set up so that people don't have to eat in their laps. What's the Greenbriar Country Club like?

Another idea for you is to go to a tea room!  Most of them are pretty small, so all you have to do is pay for the food and you will most likely have the place to yourself.  They are pretty cool and would be a great idea for something different for a shower... you could even make it like 'hats required' for something fun!

The only recommendation I can give for a specific location is a place callled the English Rose!  When you pull up, you might be a little worried at first (hidden behind a shopping center), but inside it is soo cute!!  I'm sure the cost would be the same if you went there versus bought decorations, made your own food and rented a space!!  I'll admit I'm a big fan of the place (my mom loves tea so we go often).

I really can't think of any locations on this side of the water that would allow you to bring food!

I can also recommend a tea room in Chesapeake called "La Tea Da."  It's super cute inside, and the food is very good and reasonably priced.  (The cream puffs are to die for!)

I've always LOVED the tea party idea... I was planning on having that for my own bridal shower, actually :) I'm nust not sure how my bride will like it since she's not a tea fan...

If I can't use it, then hey, at least I have a new place to have tea :)

I'm thinking along the lines of a hotel, but someone's suggested using a ruitan club or something along those lines.... I've been in a few ruitan clubs, and they're just NOT formal, but are there any around here that could at least be decorated to look nice?

La Tea Da is wonderful!  Even if the bride isn't a tea fan, it's a quiet venue with a great atmosphere.  They also have an ABC license so you could probably do mimosas or something other than tea :)

I'm not sure what the food minimums would be for a bridal shower vs a wedding, but here is the smaller of the two rooms that we looked at. It also has a small rental fee ($400 maybe?)

The country club customizes their menus for each person, so I have no idea what their pricing is like. We were just going to give her the budgeted amount and let the chefs go crazy with desserts. It sounded great though. I was really excited for a lemonade station.
The event coordinator was really nice, but a little opinionated. We wanted an appetizer reception and she kept insisting that we didn't want tables for everyone.

I looked at Greenbriar Country club for my wedding.  We opted to have the wedding and reception on base but Greenbriar was my favorite off base location.  They do have a rental fee if you aren't a memeber.  They do not allow outside food except wedding cake so they might let you bring in a cake for the shower.  I asked about doing a cookie table (a tradition where I come from) and was told I could do it only if I signed a waiver stating the club was not at fault if the guests got sick from the cookies.

I really liked their event coordinator too.
