New York

3 Fried Things

Every year I go to the fair.  It is hot, crowded, over priced, terrible traffic and it smells funny... but I love it.  Smile

I normally eat pretty healthy... but every year at the fair, I make it a point to eat 3 disgustingly inappropriately fried things.

This year's 3 were:

1.  Deep fried Snickers wrapped in bacon

2.  Deep fried chicken wing dip

3.  Deep fried pineapple

I also absolutely positively cannot leave without a humongonormous piece of roasted corn... dipped, of course, in real fattening greasy disgusting BUTTER.  I love it.

Does anyone else have any fair traditions?  Something you do every year?  Something you do different every year?  A certain food you just HAVE to have?

    Good morning!

FI and I took my 9 year old niece to the fair on Saturday and got to endure three whole hours of Selena Gomez with thousands of screaming tweens. She enjoyed it, but thought the music was "a little too loud"-- classic.

But yes, I always throw in the towel on my diet/exercise regieme for the fair. The order usually ends up something like this:

    1) Byrne Dairy soft ice cream
    2) 25 cent chocolate milk
    3) pasta at the international food court
    4) fried dough
    5) Dino BBQ pulled pork, but I don't eat the bread (saving room for more)

I know, it could be more exciting. But there is just something about the smell of the fair. I think it's a central NY thing??

Lol.  I thought it was going to be like a salty/sweet delicious type thing... but neither the bacon nor the Snickers had a really strong flavor.  It was just a deep fried blob.  I think they made them more for the shock value than the actual taste.  Oh well... now I can say I have tried it, lol.

There's a restaurant in Brooklyn that has a fried dessert menu - Mars and Bounty bars, Twinkies, Twix, Snickers and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. The Snickers are the best!

I'm intrigued by the deep fried chicken wing dip. Chicken wing dip is so delicious regularly, it must be like heaven when it's fried. ;)

I go every year, but I cant say I have any traditions. Drinking. Haha. Typically its fried dough. I have to have it b/c I love it and you can only get it at fairs...but it was so flippin hot Saturday that I didnt want it.

But we have a tradition simply of going every year. I love it!

    1) Deep fried oreos, candy bars or PB&J (all are yummy in my opinion)
    2) Chicken gyro
    3) Corn on the cob dipped in all that mouth watering butter with lemon pepper seasoning
    4) Wine slushies

Fried dough!! I make it at home sometimes, but it's just not the same as the long skinny ones from the fair!

Last year we decided we HAD to try some deep fried stuff..apple pie, pizza, some candy bars. It's was all good, but nothing that I just haaaave to have again. But I'm also a super picky eater!

We are going tomorrow (Wednesday) .. definitely will start with fried dough and a wine slushie!
