Honeymooning in MN

FI and I decided we'd both love to just go up north for our honeymoon!

Stop in Duluth for a couple days, then make our way further north towards Grand Marais or something.
Everything I've found so far is just so not.... sexy.

I need help finding a good hot steamy place in northern MN, lol.

Of course, it has to be beautiful outside. Sort-of secluded, not neccessarily a cabin way out in the woods, but a small room in a crampy hotel isn't gonna work either.
Any ideas?

TIA!

My brother and his wife honeymooned at Bluefin Bay (Tofte). Gunflint Lodge (on the Gunflint Trail) is another really great place. You can rent a cabin all to yourself and they have a really nice restaurant or you can use the kitchen in the cabin.

Superior Shores in Two Harbors and Beacon Point in Duluth seem like really nice places too, though I don't have experience with them. If you don't want to stay at a hotel/resort you could also try a Bed and Breakfast. There are a number of really good ones in the area.

I live in Duluth, so if you need more info let me know.

    Here's some more ideas: http://www.northshorevisitor.com/lodging/specials.html#2
  • My FI and I stayed at Bluefin Bay last spring and it was very luxurious.  Our room was very secluded in that we could not see anyone else, nor could they see us. They have a wonderful restaurant on-site and a fire pit that was fun to roast marshmallows at.
  • If you are going to stay in Duluth at all, we absolutely LOVE Fitgers. Their service is amazing and the rooms have a victorian/shabby chic kind of feel. They have rooms that look over the lake, a free taxi service, and a brewhouse with awesome food.

Like PP's we also really like Blufin Bay in Tofte. We recently stayed in one of their studio rooms with a jacuzzi tub, full kitchen and deck overlooking the lake and had a great experience.

    Good Luck!

  • I'd go with Bluefin Bay, it's beautiful up there. I'd also look at Lutsen.

  • Our honeymoon will also be in Duluth and our place that we always stay in and love eveything about it is Canal Park Lodge.

  • I recommend Larsmont Cottages (www.larsmontcottages.com). They are about 20 minutes north of Duluth, and 5 minutes south of Two Harbors. They are located directly on Lake Superior, and have fire pits with comfy adirondack chairs all along the lakefront. they set up all the wood at night and you only need to light up the fire and cozy up.

They have a sauna, outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake, and if you're into recreation, they have free bicycles, a canoe, and yard games like horseshoes and that bean bag toss game. DH and I always have a blast when we go there.

They have an excellent restaurant overlooking the lake, and usually have free make-your-own smores after dinner at a firepit outside the restaurant. It's a short drive to more restaurants in Two Harbors, and Nokomis is a really nice fancy restaurant nearby too. It's also an easy drive to Split Rock State Park, Gooseberry Falls, and Tettegouche State Park.

DH and I have been there several times, and we keep going back. It would be a nice place for a close-by honeymoon. It's less than 10 years old.

  • Besides the few resorts in the Arrowhead region(Duluth Area), there is always Chase on the Lake in Walker, MN.
