Wedding and Reception sites

Hello, my wedding is next October in the Toledo area but I'm planning it from Los Angeles. I am having hard time choosing the ceremony and reception sites since I can't be in town to look at places. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions; our budget for these two is about $8,000 and we are expecting around 130 guests. Thanks!

Congrats and welcome! Few questions for you: Are most of the guests already here in Toledo, or will they be travelling too? Also...your budget, is that just for ceremony areception venue, or is that total? Because for just the venue...you can pretty much go anywhere! The Toledo Zoo, Toledo Museum of Art, any of the country clubs, Valentine or Stranahan Theatre, Maumee Bay Resort, and probably most of the hotels like the Hilton Garden Inn or Hilton Toledo...or for downtown locations: Crowne Plaza. Any ideas if you're looking for indoor or outdoor ceremony? Both at the same location or do you want seperate?

The Hilton Hotel on Glendale Avenue (review in my bio - link in siggy) is great for receptions. Our ceremony site was a non-denominational church in South Toledo - there is also a review and contact information for it in the bio.

About 90% of the guests are already in Toledo. The $8,000 is what we have set aside for the ceremony and reception costs only. I would prefer to have them both at the same place but I don't mind them being separate if the locations are nice. I liked the ballroom at the Sea Gate Centre, does anyone know how far in advance this needs to be reserved? Thanks!

@ britndavid: That would be wonderful! I called Sea Gate two days ago and left a voicemail for Carol and I haven't heard anything back yet. Is there a different person I should contact? I was wondering if a ballroom was available for Oct. 9th, 2010? Thanks!

Seagate Center?  Don't you have to pay to rent everything and the floor is concrete???  And isn't there a parking fee for all guests??

Great wedding date RandaDZ! That's my date too  ;o) I stayed at the Park Inn Hotel (I think that's what it was called) after a wedding at The Event Center.  The Park Inn Hotel was attached to the Sea GateCenter... I had to run over there to use the ATM machine... I didn't notice a ball room -- as there was a HUGE business convention going on at the same time... There was nothing real personal about the Sea Gate Center... It was kinda blah (IMO)... But I didn't see the actual guest entrance, and banquet/ball room... But if you are looking at downtown area, you may want to check out Crowne Plaza (really good wedding package -- includes a lot), Park Inn Hotel, The Event Center, of course the Toledo Zoo, I think there is a Wyndam also downtown... Lourdes College also has a beautiful wedding/banquet area... And the Pinnacle has a beautiful area to have weddings... Just a few suggestions....I was also out of town trying to get ideas but got lucky and loved the first place we saw... So I know how difficult it is to figure things out from OOT... Here is a website that I heard about at a bridal show... Not really updated but, it's a start -- and the knot also has some suggestions for toledo vendors... You might want to read previous posts regarding the Crowne Plaza, not a lot of brides (or their wedding guests) have had good luck there on their big day.Heat, air, parking, food issues

I didn't know that about the Crowne Plaza :o(  Sorry to suggest if brides have had problems there... I just remember that the hotel kept on coming up on my online searches... And the package sounded very nice  :o)  Good to know...

I'm having my reception at The Park Inn Hotel downtown and they have been wonderful in helping me plan everything (I am also planning everything from out of town). The packages are really reasonable and the ballroom is beautiful!

I'm having our receiption at the Courtyard at the Navy Bistro.  Turns out it's very comparable to other venues in the area and it's beautiful.  I saw it set up for a ceremony there, but it looks like a pretty small area.  We're having our ceremony at a church and just our reception there.

If you are still looking, have you considered any of the yacht clubs? Many of them will hold weddings/wedding receptions for non-embers.  There are actually quite a few yacht clubs in the area, Toledo Yacht Club probably has the largest facility and is the oldest.
