Custom made wedding gowns

I am planning on wearing a burgandy/red color traditional style ball gown for my wedding but can only find one dress that fits that description in Wisconsin. I've been thinking of checking into getting a dress custom made but am having troubles finding someone in Wisconsin that makes custom gowns. My wedding is planned for June 14, 2014 so I am running out of time to have a dress madecustom. Can anyone help me find someone to make me a custom dress??

You have 15 months until your wedding. That is PLENTY of time to design and make a custom dress.

You have plenty of time to get a dress made. Mine is custom made too - in the works right now. My wedding is in October and the first mock-up is just getting put together now. Google seamstress, dressmaker even costume maker and email/call them. I will warn you that depending on your location, a custom made dress can be quite pricey. Have you looked at department stores - especially around prom season? Nordstroms has beautiful gowns and a great return policy if you don't have a store near you.

You could work with the same lady who is custom-making my dress (which is going to be a wisteria periwinkle grey-blue duchess satin.) She's doing my dress with specific sleeves, a specific bodice/neckline, a specific train - every element based on weblinks and images I sent her...combined into one unique dress. Her company is Leontina Designs/www.mybigfatbeautifulwedding.com. Her name is Janice. If you contact her, please tell her Ella recommended her. She's based in Michigan and you (might?) be able to do a visit to the store - but I live in Washington, D.C. and don't plan to visit. She requires payment in full before she begins work, but she can provide you a bid if you are ready to make a payment like this. My design is really elaborate and a lot of fabric, so my dress will be about $1000 (which includes a custom-made petticoat with 5 hoops, a bodice that is steel-boned corset construction, a long cathedral train, elaborate lace edging on the sleeves, plus I am including what I will need to pay for bustling - the one feature Janice does not do herself - so that is something you need to have done locally once you get your dress....if you need it/want it.) Most of her designs are less. She has many colors of fabric in stock....many shades of red burgundy etc.

I forgot to add, just for your perspective - I visited two local seamstresses here in Washington D.C. to check on if I could have my dress made locally (for fittings). They each priced the SAME design at $3,000 or so. So, Janice is a HUGE BARGAIN.

Thank you all for your ideas. I had thought about dying a white dress but the bridal shops I talked to said it was not a good idea. Also, places that sell prom dresses will not work because the only way I can have a red dress is if it is a very traditional style with a train. Ella, I will defiantly look into Janice. That was the kind of information I was looking for. Thank you.

I got my dress off Etsy; if I remember correctly I think she was based in Wisconsin. Look up VeryTresChic on Etsy and Facebook. She might be willing to do some custom work for you if you like her style. I am very happy with my dress, which is a champagne colour; I messaged her my measurements and all that needed altering when I got the dress was the hem.

I custom my dresses via an online store, you may also try to search on Google with "Custom made", It's still enough time for you to custom your dress. I kind of like shopping online, it helps save a lot. But you need to be careful enough when go online.
