  I used Kate Kelly and she did a fabulous job on our wedding.  I know  you're looking for a more budget option, so she might not be right for you, but you could at least call her and see what you might be able to negotiate.  We paid around $3K, and it was our big splurge.  She was totally worth it.  Good luck!

  I think you might have some luck looking on Portland Craig's List.  There are a lot of up and coming wedding photogs who don't charge much.  Just be sure to look at their portfolios closely, and ask for what you want.  $1K is still going to be a stretch, but it could be done if you're willing to try someone just starting out.

  We used Bryan Rupp and paid around $1600 for 8 hours and the license to all our photos (ended up with around 900 pics from him and his wife as second photog).  He has a nice website and blog to look at.  Our photos were fabulous and they were great to work with.
