Did you boudoir?

I'm meeting in a few weeks with the photographer whose gonna do my boudoir shoot in July. I'm really excited because I a) think fiance will love it and b) i'm excited to do it for myself as a celebration of getting healthy/losing weight.

She doesn't have a studio so it's going to be all outdoors in the boonies. She just got this awesome vintage red fainting couch and I think we'll do quite a bit with that.

Anyway, tell me about your experiences cuz I'm a little nervous about getting in my skivvies outside for a stranger

Re: Did you boudoir?

  • Honestly? The outside part is a leeeetle strange. How does she know people won't happen by, and why does she not have a studio?

Also, make sure your contract states that she is not allowed to use your photos for her website or any other promotions. A poster once had her b-pics put in the internet by the photographer.

Not trying to scare you, but I'm being honest here.

I'm going to be doing one. And as part of a wedding present to me, FI has arranged to have a painting done of me by one of my fave artists (who does more boudoir style stuff).

I know it's kinda daunting to think of a stranger seeing you 'like that'. So definitely have a meeting (or two or three) before the shoot so that you can feel more comfortable with her. And also, so you can tell her what kind of shots you want and what you're willing/comfortable to do during the shoot.

Also, when your FI isn't around (or if he's there, if you wish), 'practice' in front of a mirror. Dance around, move around, make faces, all that jazz. It will help you feel more at ease with how you look in certain positions. And train you to be more comfortable with doing those sexier/more sensual faces and poses in front of someone else.

Edit - To add to what Jas said, make sure that if you want, you can bring a girlfriend or someone close to you. Just in case.

Hahahah fair enough. She doesn't have a studio because she does photography part time (she's a stay at home mom). I live in rural Oregon and there are plenty of places that you can do shoots outdoors where no one will ever happen by. Also, my photographer has no boudoir pictures posted with the exception of one girl who allowed her to.. This photogapher has come highly reccomended to me by 3 friends one of which is another photographer.

Here's a couple pictures, just so you can get an idea of what an outdoor boudoir shoot is like.

  • Okay, those photos are awesome.  I love that they are outdoors.

I didn't do a boudoir, but I'm considering it for our 1 year anniversary.  Have fun!

Thanks, I'm really excited. At first I was bummed cuz I had pictured doing it in like a plush hotel room, but I love how vintage it looks with the bed in the middle of a field. I was talking with her tonight and she was saying her friend owns a vintage boutique so after we meet and discuss details she's going to go "shopping" and borrow pieces from her friend for our shoot. I'm so excited!

  • What part of Oregon are you in? I lived up there for about 10 years (went to school at OSU), all over the I-5 corridor.

No prob if you don't want to say ;)

  • I am going to be doing a boudoir session with a photographer I've worked with for many years so I'm super comfortable with him.  He shot all of my HW tropics pageants so he's seen me in a bikini many times before.

I have done outdoor shoots and there are some people who will stop and watch out of curiosity but it doesn't sound like there should be anyone around where you're shooting so it should be fine.  Good for you for getting healthy/in shape and have a blast doing it!

  • I did a boudoir session for a bday present this year for my FI. It was at a studio, but I was also a bit nervous. I ended up having a blast, and the two women I worked with were great. Try not to think about the fact that you are in your undies and it will be just fine. I actually felt really good about myself, especially after when I got to see the proofs. Plus your FI will completely love it. Mine's jaw dropped and he was totally floored when I gave him the photo book. Have fun!!! :)

When you go to OSU, you've GOT to hit Woodstock's pizza for me! King's Ave, right off of campus and greek row. I loved that place when I was there. It's such a beautiful campus. I miss that quad.

Heck, I've lived in almost every city along the corridor lol. Corvallis, Eugene, Medford, Salem, Portland, McMinnville.... I just couldn't take the rain anymore.

Bahahah it always makes me laugh when I hear about people coming up to monmouth to party. Mostly because Corvallis is awesome and Monmouth is in the middle of a cornfield lol That and all the students at western are always leaving to go to portland or eugene or corvallis. Ah man, that's too funny!

  • I had a great time! I had planned on just being in the lingerie that I brought, but I ended up feeling comfortable enough that I stripped down completely, ha. It helped to have music with me (maybe see if she has portable battery-powered ipod speakers?). I got my fiercest poses when "Bad Romance" came on :)

Thanks!  We actually booked the venue because they said that they'd have a chapel built by May (they haven't even begun construction!)  Anyway, we booked our wedding for the "off season" and locked in a really low price and I asked if they could guarentee the price even if we had to switch our date due to construction hold ups.  The agreed so then they had to honor the price when the Chapel wasn't built.  Anyway, I'm babbling but basically we could have never afforded an outdoor summer wedding at the Abernethy if it weren't for a twist of fate!

  • FI and I were just saying the other night that I should do some boudoir photos before the wedding! He's always asking for "sexy" pics, but honestly I don't feel comfortable with it until we're married. Not that I'm a prude or anything, I'm just worried about someone else finding the photos, especially since we're in college and moving around a lot. I guess once we're married and living together and I know where the photos are kept, I'll feel a little more at ease. ;)

Can someone tell me how these shoots go? I mean, do you bring your own lingerie, do the photographers give you poses to do, etc? I'm really interested in how these appointments work.

Love those outdoor ones, they are very unique! I was going to do them for a wedding gift for H, but ended up getting pregnant and didn't know how good they would look since I was still in that iffy stage where my baby bump looked more like a beer gut haha. Oh and PS I totally know where Monmouth is too! I went to school at U of O though.

  • Yes, I did. I liked the experience, but I hated the pictures, because I still have some self image issues. I think they looked crappy, but DH likes them. I had them done in early November and haven't committed the $500 for the album yet if that tells you anything. Maybe for Father's Day.

I have no idea where I'll take mine but I'm excited, nonetheless (and really happy I'm friends with my photographer!)

    Good luck!

  • I loved my photo session! Have fun with it, pick items that may mean something to your FI, like a shirt he wears a lot. Or I've seen some with jerseys of the FI/DH's favorite players.

    See siggy!

  • I did it and my MOH went with me to do it as well (it was a marathon session my photog was doing).  She got a suite at a local boutique hotel and you got hair and makeup done on site, and an hour of shooting time.  And champagne.  Which REALLY helped loosen me up.  I would definately recommend having a glass or two before the shoot.  I liked it, and my husband was very happy with them, but I kind of wish I'd done something more pin-up than lingere-ish.  So make sure that you know what kind of look you're going for before the shoot and that your photog does too.

If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat. image

  • I did it and loved it.  My pictures were awesome and my DH loved them too.  I highly recommend it.

I think that those outdoor pics are pretty cool, but I think I'd be a little weird taking half-naked pictures outside!  Mine were in a hotel.  :)

    Good luck!
