FI is going too crazy with the groom's cake?? *Pictures*

My FI and I finally got with our baker and finalized out Wedding and Groom's cake!! Now here is the kicker..my FI is a HUGE New Orleans Saints Fan as well as I but not like him..lol  He did it with out really talking to me, and I know its his cake and could do whatever he really wanted, BUT I think it will be bigger then my cake. and just way too much.......

Has any of your FI's went our of control on there grooms cake???? Please give advice???  Thanks for your help!!!!

My cake stands 25' tall, 5 layers, and 16' wide. Exactly like the picture except picture it light blue instead of purple. With handmade chocolate starfish and seashells in the color of Pool (light blue) and 2 large starfish as the cake topper in handmade chocolate (light blue) as well.

FI's cake is a huge, huge field of the N.O. Saints field and also an open Superdome. So when you look at the cake you see the field and then half of the superdome almost as if your looking inside the dome. So the details on his cake is like uh WOW!! So combine both of these pictures below together and add about 2 times the size and there is the cake. Our baker did a sketch of the cake and honestly could not fit it one peice of paper... OYE

His must be the size of the stadium itself then if yours is 25 feet high and 16 feet wide.

I kid. I kid.  I did get an image of Spinal Tap in my head reading this post though when their stonehenge set was miniature because they used " for feet instead of '.

that looks like a lot of cake to me! if you're not having a ton of guests you may want to scale one of the cakes back, or you'll have a ton of leftover!

I'd let him do it.  If he's anything like my guy, there are few details hes excited about, and if hes really into the cake, then let him have it.  Plus, it looks awesome.  Guests will be wowed.

What about serving his cake as dessert at RHD?  We're doing that and seems fairly popular in our area.

I have actually seen that superdome cake at a wedding before and it looked pretty amazing by itself!

I say if it's really that important to him then go for it! Let him have his cake and eat it too ; )

I thought I was doing well with my cake decision, we are having a tiny wedding and I want to do a cupcake tower. Well my FI looks all dejected and says he wants a big wedding cake with lots of tiers and a bride and groom on top. Go figure. LOL.

I say, let him do what he wants. If he's anything like my FI, he left most of the decisions up to me saying "if you're happy, I am happy". So if this is the thing that makes him happy, go for it. You can always donate the rest of the cake to the homeless shelter. They will appreciate it.

1)DId you mean inches instead of feet on your cake?  If you cake is 25 ft. tall that is a helluva lot of cake girl!  Plus I would be scared to stand too close to something that big, but what an awesome photo op! LOL

    2) Is the "superdome" part cake also or just decoration?

    3) If it is in your budget to have 2 cakes, then let him have his - you are getting what you want, so fair is fair.

You said you are worried it will be biggers than "yours" ?  So what?  It is his wedding too!  This is something you two can look back on and laugh about years later.

Could you have fake tiers for part of it, then get only as much real cake as you need?  It's a pretty common thing to do, and then you don't have to sacrifice the grand cake-cutting picture.

Having the groom's cake at the RD is pretty popular at weddings I have been to recently.  But you'd need to work that out with your baker.  You may end up with extra charges because they'd be doing multiple deliveries.

    1) My cake stand at 25 inches tall
    2) Yes the Superdome is part of the decoration it will have half of the Dome. He wants the cake to be open with the field as if you were sitting in the dome looking across. Similar to the **Picture below**.
    3) Yes it's in the budget. I'm not worried about it be bigger more than ...will it be too much cake??!!. And being a waste. We are having about 200 guests.

Oh well ... instead of a small piece we will give a huge piece of cake...lol maybe let ppl take some home with them... K feel better.. LOL

It would be like this, JUST cake...

I'm from Texas!!!! It has nothing to do with Texas "doing things small" I think if you lived here you would understand how much the New Orleans Saints football team mean to these ppl here especially after superbowl 44. He just wants to express it the New Orleans style. "Doing it big in the big easy" is a term we use here. If there was term like that in Texas then I would be using that term :)

I had a similar situation when we were looking for our cake decorator.  I wanted a simple only about 3 tier cake.  He got all excited and wanted so much that it was just going to overpower the look of mine and I felt like I would be outweighed.

A marriage is about equal partnership.  If you look at in that light... maybe his cake should be scaled back but still let him have the look and give him good reasons when you decide to do this!!

We ended up putting a feature in my cake to make it more unique and we were able to get a cake he approved of that had all the elements (sports, car, and John Deere) he was interested in getting on his cake.  We are using images that we are supplying that helped lower the cost.
