How Far Would You Go: For Your Dress

Well I'm not going too far, maybe an hour out of my way but I found THE PERFECT DRESS. It's my dream dress come to life.

There are only 23 samples in the US and ONE here in NC! (It's only an hour away from me but still,  I may have traveled a great distance to meet her.)

How far would you ladies go to meet a dress if you knew she was going to be the one.

Re: How Far Would You Go: For Your Dress

  • This is easy for me to answer since I'm in NJ, very close to NYC. If there is a dress that I like, there is really a slim-to-none-chance that is NOT available in either northern NJ or NYC.

I have purchased my dress - I went to 4 stores. I went to a store first, tried on a bunch (a friend worked at the atelier), didn't find "the one."

Went to others, took off a day from work to go to another atelier in NYC.  Found 2 that I loved. Thought about it, went back to the original store, tried on one of the 2 "finalists" there (with different modifications - the modifications I wanted) and then bought it.

I didn't have "as much fun" as I thought I would have dress shopping. I tried on what I thought was A LOT of dresses - about 8 - 15 per trip. Besides the final two everything was nice but sorta "eh."  I was more relieved when I found the gown rather than excited!

Did you post that you bought your dress? Idk maybe I missed it. lol

Id say do it if you know that its the dress. Make a trip out of it with other shopping and whatnot.

  • Sewinlove: You live in NJ! I always wanted to live where people wanted to be ;-) I'm too much of a country bumpkin to survive in the north but I sure would LOVE the opportunity to be around so much AWESOME all the time!

Kinda wish I could go with less people but, in my family, that's unheard of. Now, I'm going to drag them an hour and a half away from our first dress shopping location (which is an hour from where I live, and I live 2 hours from grandma & 5 hours from my mother) in pursuit of my dream gown. X-D Oh well, they want to come dress shopping, they're coming dress shopping lol.

Nope, never posted but I did buy it!  I think I was still fairly new here when I bought it. I had been planning originally for July 2013 and bought my dress knowing it would take a while, and wanted it ready by July 2013.Now, I have more time, but am thrilled that I already have this chosen.

I can post pictures here (not to hijack the thread, but it is a dress thread!)

    It is Marielle by Rivini:

I had been trying on many all lace, straighter silhouette gowns. I knew I was not going to wear strapless.

NJ is a pretty cool place to live! I love being close to the city, but don't go as often as I should - I should definitely take advantage of it more! I went to the NYC store with my mother, and my sister came to 2 of the other stores.  Also, none of us are "criers." There was no "OMG THIS IS THE ONE" moment, but for a split second when I had this dress on, I felt a tear *almost* form. That's as sentimental as I got, lol.

  • I love that dress! In my scale of 100 dresses (1 being the ONE and 100th being if the first 99 dresses aren't available) I rate it a solid 3 (Behind my top two choices but I'm just being biased :-) ) I LOVE IT. My dress is also lacy and not strapless!

Oh geeze I can't wait for November to come around so we can see everyone's wedding pictures!

<div>Haha, thanks! It was a bit of a splurge, but it is definitely the one for me. There was another Rivini that was my 2nd choice (tiers of lace instead of the silk tulle, but a similar top) but I'm soooo excited to wear this gown!</div>
