We used A Personal Touch.  We got 8 hours, 2 DJs, they did our ceremony, dinner, and dance music, basic lighting package (nice, not over the top) and it was about $900 plus tip (off-season).  I think they did a great job.

I used Mike MIller DJ, He was $900.  That included cocktail hour, dinner music, and dancing as late as we wanted to go.  We were very happy with his services.  I'm not sure how far from Madison he travels.

We're using Sound by Design. They're more expensive (1,475) but include uplighting on one wall, and seven hours of music (cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing). During cocktail hour and dinner, they don't just play Jazz from the 30s. They'll mix it up (we really like indie rock).  We've also found that they're very professional.

We met with Midwest Sound and Light, too. They're definitely cheaper, but they didn't seem to know what they were doing regarding uplighting. And I don't want to pay someone to press "play" on a portable CD recorder during cocktail hour. (That's what the person we met with said they do during cocktail hour music.)

We also met with Juke Box Bandstand, out of Madison. They were 1,200, but that didn't include uplighting. Their uplighting is 50/per light. In the end, Sound by Design was slightly more (by $75), but we think they'll be totally worth it.

I'm paying $695 for 6 hours of music-2 for dinner and up to 4 four dance.  This is actually the four hour price with two free hours thrown in.  I'll also be renting their cordless mic for $30 since my venue doesn't have a cordless.  I'm using Midwest Sound and had no concerns when we met with them.

Do you think $1125 is to much? They would plau from 4-12 and that also includes uplighting.

when you are looking at uplighting bear in mind that you wouldn't need to decorate the hall with tulle. A lot of decor companies charge anywhere from $500 to $3000 for tulle. We are having Midwest as well for our DJ and our uplighting. But our room is HUGE so we needed lots of uplights. All in all we are still coming in at under $1600 for everything. So, If they are offering $1125, I'd say you got a pretty good deal.

I forgot to mention that we are using Waxx Mobile DJ.  Personally, I think anything more than $600 for a DJ is beyond crazy but they we also budgeted pretty low for that service.

just remember you get what you pay for.
Some people can spend $40,000 on their wedding, and others look at that and go wow that's too much. With others some will spend $10,000 and think that is a lot of money. So It's all in perception. Whether you spend $200 or $5,000 on the Dj it doesn't matter, what does matter is can they deliver on the promise to follow your playlist and handle your entertainment in a fun professional way.

My wife and I had Smoov Music and they truly did a great job. This included LED Up-Lighting as well as other lights. They let us pick out our must play-list and do not play, too. We met with Midwest Sound, Sound By Design, Platnium, and Smoov and we were so impressed with Smoov Music's knowledge that we booked them on the spot, which I normally do not do. I am very picky with music, and lighting, etc. I highly recommend Smoov Music. Their website FYI is www.SmoovMusicDJ.com">www.smoovmusicdj.com. Hope this helps!

And FYI---they played for 8 hours total!
