Chinese Lanterns???

Has anyone used Chinese lanterns in lieu of sparklers or bubbles for the send-off at the end of the reception? Any thoughts? My fiance is Taiwanese and says they are safe, but I keep finding scary stories online. Thanks!

    FYI: we are getting married at a winery, and there is a very large field we can release them in.

    They are not only unsafe but even biodegradable ones cause litter and are terrible for the environment. Many venues will not allow them.
