July 2013 Weddings

Date set and plannig away!

We have recently just booked our wedding to be Friday July 12, 2013 at The White Room in downtown St. Augustine, FL!  We are having a rooftop ceremony an hour before sundown (7 pm), and I am contemplating having our dancing part of the reception out on the rooftop under the stars and twinkle lights...any suggestions???

Hello, My wedding is on Friday, July 12th too!  We just booked our date a week ago, and I'm so excited to be planning!

I like the idea of twinkle lights, if you want them, you should buy them after Christmas of 2012, they will be on sale!

Also, I have a nosey question about your screen name.  Is it a history reference?
  • Welcome to the board!

If you can find the twinkle lights for a good deal before Christmas I'd go ahead and buy them when you can.  I had the intention of purchasing some this Christmas during clearance but every store I went to was sold out in the style & color I wanted!

  • Thanks for the tips! I'm just worried about it being too hot outside for FL for dancing outside, but it will be at night so at least it'll be a bit cooler and I'm planning on DIY program fans :)

@Gabrielle76 - yep its a history reference! I'm a history buff and love the Elizabethan/Tudor era/reign :) Are you not so excited for 7/12?!?!?  Are you in 2012 or 2013 and where???
  • @Gabrielle76 - haha sorry for the question, obvs your 2013 you're on the boards lol, yay for having the same date!  where are you having your wedding?

  • My wedding is at a Historic Mansion near my hometown.  Here's a pic :

I'm REALLY excited too, I feel like it can't come fast enough! I'm going dress shopping in a little over a month, and it's al finally feeling real!  Have you picked your dress or anything yet?

Also, awesome that your screen name is a history reference, I was hoping so because I'm obsessed with Tudor history too :).  I was actually originally planning a winter wedding, and wanted to include some 'Tudor' details (like using pomegranates, after Katherine of Aragon's emblem).  But then I realized that I really wanted a summer wedding, even if I had to change a few things around.  I'm still planning on including some subtle historical influences though.
  • Your venue looks awesome! I have not picked my dress yet, I am hoping to do that this summer as we become more of a year out. I've picked my bridemaids jewlery, I got hangers with our names on them to hold our dresses and for really cute pictures, and I booked the photographer, but that is about it.  I figured the next two big things are entertainment/music and flowers, which I'm hoping to do this summer, and then just worry about the little stuff as the year goes out.

    This is our venue:

It is The White Room in downtown St. Augustine, FL, so we still have some history mixed into our location!

Thats so cool about using history references in your wedding!  We chose a summer wedding b/c we will have just graduated with our masters, so it seemed like a good time before we become very career centered.

Have you picked anything else besides your venue yet?
  • Your venue is so pretty! The view looks incredible.
So far we've booked the venue (duh), and the photographer (which was easy, my moms bff is a wedding photographer), and I've scheduled a consultation with the DJ I like. I've also started designing the bridesmaids dresses, because we're going to get them made instead of buying something standard.  I'm looking forward to dress shopping when I go home for spring break, we're getting an early start because I'm SUPER tall so we're worried that we might have to get something made, and we want to make sure there is ample time to do that.  I'm planning on DIYing the flowers, because the venue is already pretty decorated, so there won't be too much, and I like simple styles the best.

I seriously think we might be switched at birth twins, a HUGE part of our decision to go for that summer is because we will have both just finished our masters degrees! His will be in Counseling Psychology, and mine will be in Developmental Psychology.  Are you and your FI in the same masters program? What are you guys studying?
  • Yep, we are both at Florida State working on our masters in Instructional Systems, which I'm pretty sure is very similar to your guys' degrees. He got his bachelors in IT and I got mine in social work, but we like the career path ISD has. That is too funny we have so many similarities!

I am trying to do DIY to save some money, do you know how you are doing the flowers?  I'm going to do DIY program fans since it will be outside in FL in the summer lol. I know I want simple centerpieces and bouquets, but I dont know exactly what I want to do yet. I cant wait for dress shopping, I think I know what I already want, but who knows when I go to try different ones on.

Good luck with your interview with the DJ!  I'm slightly nervous about picking the entertainment, b/c I really want a party atmophere for the reception, so I hope I make the right decision when the time comes.
  • I am a huge huge disney fan, so it is no surprise that I am in love with this Alfred Angelo dress:

I'm totally into feeling like a princess for the day lol. This is where I want to start, because I've already fallen in love with this one, but I am def open to other styles. I agree with having a puff to the dress, I think that's what makes it a wedding dress. Do you have any dresses that you have been looking at? (I've loved this one since before we got engaged lol)

As for DJ's I've started to research ones on our venue's preferred vendor list, and one has great feedback and I like their prices (below our budget), which is nice! Thanks for the advice, I hadnt thought about that and makes me really sway to picking one of the preferred vendors.

Omg the Alfred Angel Belle dress is on my list of favorites too, it's so beautiful!

I love Demitrios dresses, they are a little out of my price range, but I might move some things around.

This is one of my favorites, at the moment :)

The DJ we're looking at is from the venues preferred vendor list as well. I think it's a good idea because then you know they'll provide quality service.  Plus I want someone who is familliar with the venue, because not eveything happens in the same room, there's a dining room for eating, ballroom for dancing, and a few side rooms with stuff to do, we we want someone who will be familiar with how to do  a wedding in that situation.

How did you and your FI meet?
  • Also planning on DIY program fans! I'm at work on my phone but I'll try to remember to post dress fave when I get home.

  • flutterbride2b  I think the DIY fans will be a fun project, my MOH is really artistic and creative so we are going to design and put them together together. Cant wait to see a pic of your fav dress!

Gabrielle76 We met about 7 years ago through a mutual friend at their birthday party,  I would have never guessed then in high school that we would be planning to get married today!  I love your dress pic! The bottoms of the two dresses I think are similar, I really like that style! I def think picking someone off of the preferred vendor list is the way to go, I hope it works out for both of us. How did you and your FI meet?
  • That's so cute, how fun that you guys met in high school!
My FI and I met in a sort of nerdy way, at the start of my freshman year of college, a friend talked me into going to the first meeting of the schools Dungeons and Dragons club, I'm nerdy so she thought I would like it.  I was only planning on going to the one meeting, but he was there, and I thought he was really hansom, (he has long hair, and I'm weird and really like that).  When the people in charge of the club started the meeting, they introduced FI and said he would be running a game for beginners. I decided to join his game, to get to talk to him, and actually found out that it was really fun.
Unfortunately, he was (and still sort of is) a total nerd boy, and he had NO idea that I was trying to flirt with him/get his attention.  It took him a full year to recognize what was going on, and we had become close friends.  Finally, when we were hanging out at his house I pretty much directly told him that I liked him, and he was thrilled.  We started dating, and got engaged a year later.  I still cringe at all the time I wasted waiting for him to get my hints.

Flutterbride, are you the mod of this board, or another one too? I just noticed your orange bar, is it new?

It's fairly new.  Just this board for the time being.

I was considering doing a general PSA: "I'm here if you need me!" but figured you ladies are smart and would figure it out right away without me creating a separate post for it.  I was planning on a "what do you want out of this board" type of post though, so I guess I could always combine them into one.

I figured I'm doing an outdoor wedding so I can just kill two birds with one stone :)

Okay, so here's a few.  The top on is the first dress that just made me go "OOOOO", and the second is one in a similar style that's also fabulous but happens to be a bit more budget friendly (a style from a few seasons ago and about 1/3 the price of the first one).  As you can see I'm in love with strapless pick-up ballgowns <3  I'm really uncertain about these crazy-long trains though. Hm.

  • I love when you get the ooooo feeling when looking at dresses!  Thats how I have about the Belle dress and cant wait to try it on, I hope its the one!!!

I'm sure once you try on a dress with that kind of train you'll know if it will work or not. When are you planning on getting your dress???

That's such a cute way to meet! Anyway I'm excited that we have a mod, it makes the board seem all official like :)

Your dress inspiration is gorgeous! Also, it's always been my understanding that you could get a tailor to remove a train, but I could be wrong.
  • I could remove it but that seems like such a waste of fabric ;(

That and I'd be afraid about hacking too much off!

  • Yeah, after buying a wedding dress, paying even more to have someone cut a piece off of it would be tough, wasting fabric bites.
