Small Ceremony/Reception Venues in Ct

I've just recently starting planning my wedding and am already completely overwhelmed!!
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any cool/quaint/unique places pretty much anywhere in the state.  My fiance and I are planning a smaller wedding (think about 50-70ppl)  so we're not super into the whole big hall idea and would love do something a bit out of the box.

Thanks so much for your help!

Where in CT are you looking?  If central, Mill on the River is a fantastic spot for a wedding that size!  I've been to two weddings there - one in their outdoor gazebo right on a big pond and one in the actual reception room.  Both were BEAUTIFUL and their food is fantastic!

There are quite a few places you can look. The Wadsworth Mansion, although it can accomodate a lot of people, divides it's large weddings into multiple rooms. You could actually fit your entire wedding on the patio or in one space and use the other for a cocktail hour or something more creative.

The Boat House in Hartford, CT is a beautiful space.

Wickham Park and both casino's also have smaller ballrooms.

We are using The Webb Barn in Old Wethersfield.  Very rustic and they let you pretty much do whatever you want with the space.  Affordble too...

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to start googling!  Those all sound like great ideas, I'm very big fan of water, barns and mansions!  @bkrunner-I've seen pictures of the Webb Barn and I loved it, I guess I just worried it would be too big.  I'll have to see if we can take a look at the space.

We're currently living up by Danbury but I have no problem travelling a bit for the right venue, thankfully Ct isn't a huge state. We've been looking a bit in the Mystic and New Haven areas as I lived in both of those places for a number of years.

Check out Tamarack Lodge in Preston CT- just went to an awesome wedding there- very rustic feeling! There's also the Inn at Mystic- Mansion type setting overlooking long island sound. Good Luck, let us know where you choose to look at :)

Good to hear.  FI's cousin/my friend that hooked us up is getting married there tomorrow.  Well, she's having a church ceremony, but reception is at Mill on the River.

I just had my wedding at Mystic Seaport in the Morgan Suites at Latitude 41*.  I was estimating for about 50 people (ended up with about 45), it was perfect.

    Good luck in your search!

My aunt got married at The Inn in Newtown and had a guestlist about the same size as you're decribing and it was beautiful there and they had great food/service. A few years later, one of my friend's bridal showers was there and again.. beautiful place, great food and service.

We got married at the Lounsbury House in Ridgefield.  Very close for you, and it's absolutely beautiful.  It's a georgian manion.  It's such a beautiful building for pictures and perfect for a  smaller wedding.  Definitely take a look at it!

The Mansion at Harkness State Park in Waterford is beautiful.
The Lace Factory sounds interesting too- it's an old factory and then there are alot of vineyards on the ct wine trail that hold weddings on their grounds- and they usually have to be small. Good Luck!

Thank you all so much for you suggestions!  It's really helped me a lot, I've looked at a couple of those places online but sort of crossed them off the list because I was afraid that venues might be too big for my small wedding, but you guys have made me feel much better.  Now it's time to start visiting locations!

Is Mill on the River still on your list?  It was beautiful (I haven't been there in years so I forgot how nice it was).  My future cousin didn't get married on site but her reception was downstairs.  I believe she had about 85.  It was a little tight but would probably be perfect size for your wedding.  The food was also very good!  I highly recommend it for a small wedding.

A few "out of the box" ideas that I thought about before I chose my venue....lighthouse point in New Haven (the Carousel makes it a very whimsical location!)....also the New Britain museum of art, the Palace or Bushnell theaters, the Hillstead museum in Farmington, and the Barns at Wesleyan hills (I think it's in Middletown).

Also Wickham Park is very pretty - I saw that another bride mentioned it earlier in the post.

These are all over the board in terms of price range, but I think they are all unique and worth looking into. Happy venue hunting! :)
