AW Wednesday!

What's new in your life/wedding planning??

FI and I got our marriage license yesterday.  Only took about 20 min (but some of the questions we had to answer were strange).  It's kinda scary to have it in hand now!

MD: Strange??? Should I be worried...me and my FI will do it in April so we have two more months but just wondering...Congrats on the check though!! Has reality hit you, now that you have gotten it?

What's new.....I am almost finished with school for the spring semester. This is finals week and I am sooooo excited to be done so I can soley focus on the wedding. This weekend I am going to pgh to do our tasting at the Lemont. My mom, step-mom and I are going dress shopping for them Friday. And I have a meeting with the makeup artist I am more than likely using for a Skincare evaluation (i'm not into makeup so I have no idea what this means lol). So i have a lot going on....I'm so excited!!!!!

Joy - I thought it was weird for them to ask my mother's/father's birthplaces and occupations.  I havent spoken to my father in years so I had to be like... I have no idea what he does. haha.  But it didnt turn out to be a problem.

    have fun at your tasting!!!

My dress came in and I tried it on for the first time last night! My future MIL went with me. It was an amazing feeling! I am in love with it even more than when I picked it out last fall. I'm not starting fittings until June for my August wedding and already got on the alterations list at Clarissa's in the South Side.

BTW - if anyone else is interested in going to Clarissa's, I'd recommend calling or stopping in and getting on the list. They have a limited number of alterations spots. They are very reasonably priced and several of my friends had a great experience there with her wedding dress alterations.

I also finally (FINALLY) settled on a bridesmaid dress-Bill Levkoff 138 in plum. I found a lot of styles I liked, but I've been looking for months and just couldn't find the right shade of purple. We're kind of down to the wire and finally found what I wanted. Now I just have to have my BMs order it and we'll be good to go.

    Hi everyone-

So this is what I have accomplished in the past couple of weeks:

    - Almost all the ceremony programs are done (yeay!) and they have turned out really, really nice.
    - Candy for the candy buffet purchased. Just need to put some labels on them.
    - Place cards (look like little luggage tags) are completely done. Just need to have my friend write the names and tables in once we have seating chart done
    - Purchased and painted frames for my guest book and place card sign. Just need to print the sign to go inside and make a map border
    - Final hair cut and color is done
    - Met with florist and finalized arrangements
    - Almost done with table numbers. Finishing today :-)
    - Started packing for the honeymoon

We also got our license application, and it was indeed very strange.... I loved how they asked if we were related lol.

So today I officially have only 2 1/2 weeks left...

Oh and I had a complete dress fiasco this weekend. Long story short, I paid a huge amount for alterations in MD, only to have to have them completely redone at the Clarissa boutique due to the patch job the first store did. It was horrible. I cried. I also have to have the dress sent to a specialty dry cleaner to get out the water marks the first store got on my dress when they steamed it. Overall, the price of the alterations and cleaning is half the cost of the gown. I am still so upset that I could punch someone. Especially the seamstress who took in the outer layer/bodice of my gown, but left the inner layer 4 sizes to big then did the hem completely wrong (like and inch and a half longer on one side wrong and too long everywhere wrong). I am giving a warning to all Baltimore brides later on this week. Great store, piss poor alteration and steaming job that cost me a bundle. The clarissa boutique was great though and are working fast to try and fix everything this week.

It seems like everyone has been really productive lately! Congrats!!

I booked my makeup artist (Clare from Ciel Cosmetics) and sent in the deposit for our florist (Carrie Ann Powell) this week!

We booked our honeymoon this week as well! We decided on Aruba!! I'm sooo excited. We are going to stay in a 1 bedroom suite at the Divi Aruba Phoenix Hotel. We are not doing an all-inclusive, and I'm really looking forward to doing some exploring around the island on our own. If anyone has any restaurant/bar/activity recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

We have a meeting with the priest at St. Stanislaus this coming Monday to figure out everything for the ceremony.

We have a photobooth booked for the reception and I am starting to look for magnetic frames for the pictures that will be used both as favors and as escort cards. Can anyone think of a reasonable place to get these?

I am also in the midst of planning my best friends shower and bachelorette party (She is getting married in May). Her shower and bach party are both on March 24. I am busy getting all of the RSVPs together and figuring out hotel rooms, etc. I booked a Pure Romance party to kick off the bachelorette festivities!

I'm at the point in my planning that all of the big stuff is done, so I'm starting to work out some details. Anyone else find this a little overwhelming?!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

sari - wow 2.5 weeks!! IT's good to hear almost everything is done.

And I am so sorry about your terrible alterations!! I'm glad Clarissa's can fix it, but how awful to have that much money added on to your costs so late in the game.  My best friend is getting her dress in the Baltimore/DC area, so I'd love to hear what the shop is that sucked.

Can you call the store, threaten complaints/BBB action and get some of your money back?

Holy heck Sarah, I can't believe you're so close.

I'm currently trying to finish our invites. I'm trying to send them out around St. Patricks day, but not sure if that's going to happen. I need to order more paper to finish my enclosures and probably more envelopes. I also need to order a return address stamp.

We have a meeting to design our cake on the 11th and to pick out music for the ceremony on the 6th. We're also meeting with our pastor this weekend to start our classes.

Md- The store is Betsey Robinson. Great selection and service to purchase items there. It's like a mini kleinfeilds. I expected a lot more out of the alterations. A whole lot more. And how do you mess up steaming?! Really?! It's a higher end store and I expect better service. I certainly paid for it.

And yeah Panther, it's crazy that I am so close now!

md- Yay for getting your marriage license!!

Britt-I second the rec for Clarissa's! Had my first fitting a while back and everything was great.

Sari- Wow you are SO close!!! Sounds like you've made major strides. I'm so sorry about your whole dress fiasco, but at least Clarissa's was able to work with it!

We worked on invites over the weekend and did around 40, which is half of them. I've worked on the map and reception inserts as well, and those are ready to print.

    Everyone is so busy!!!

Sari - you are super close!  That's great that you've been getting so much done!

I am planning on getting our marriage license sometime in April or March as well.  So I have a little time left for that.  I have been getting together all of our invitation things to put together and send.  I am hoping to send them out early March.  We went to pgh this past weekend and met with our florist, reception coordinator and then went and got tuxes for the guys.

We also found out a while ago that the priest who we thought was going to marry us was moved to a different parish and he wouldn't be able to do it after all.  So we have been frantically looking for another priest so we can actually get married!!  This weekend we found one.  So that is a big weight lifted off, but now its just all of the little things that we are working on :)

Yeah I posted a large explanation and warning on the baltimore boards. I am calling Betsey Robinson today. No bride should have to deal with that. Imagine if I hadn't tried it on before the wedding?

You girls are so close!  I got the deposit check for my ceremony/reception site from my mom today and I'm so relieved to really have that done!  I'm going to some other bridal show this Sunday at my sister's work (Holiday Inn in Moon) so...who knows what will happen there!

    I'm new at posting. I'm a lurker!

I'm still in the process of planning on a tight budget.
I'm a professional photographer and having trouble picking that perfect photographer for my wedding LOL Being in the business, i'm picky! But I have a bunch of photog friends in the business that want to photograph.
I'm looking for a venue. I want something relaxed and casual. This will be my second marriage. Neither one of us wants anything "big".  We were thinking of getting married in a friends yard and just having a party there afterwards.  But this is my fiance's first marriage, so i want it to be a little more special.
Still looking at the type of food we want, casual, maybe a bbq catering or something.
