Second Weddings

Gifts from Bride to new Step Daughters

My FH and I are being married in July.  It is a second marriage for both of us and we both have daughters.  We will not have a wedding party...just us and the officiant.  For this reason, my 3 daughters will walk me down the isle and then take a seat with the other guests.  I have asked them to wear white dresses and purchased necklaces for each.  I need ideas for my FH daugherts, ages 16 and 18.  I'd like to give them something unique that acknowledges our union.

Re: Gifts from Bride to new Step Daughters

  • If your daughters are walking you down the aisle, is your fiance being walked down the aisle by his two daughters? That would make sense, but you don't state it.

In the interest of being fair, I'd recommend getting his daughters the same thing you got yours. You don't have a wedding party, but you have wedding "escorters". Keeping the appearace of not "playing favorites" is important. You don't have to get them anything, but if you do, maybe the same or different necklaces?
  • I think if you get each of them a necklace that is unique to them, with a charm that is their first inital, or something you know they really like, such as a dolphin, would be nice.  This way they all are getting the same gift, but different, too.

I like the suggestion that your FH is escorted by his daughters down the aisle - that would be really sweet.

Listen to Sue.  She knows this stuff.  I'm a curmudgeon who would question a bride being escorted by anyone, let alone women (or girls) in white dresses.
  • I gave my stepdaughter a necklace and an engraved jewelry box (he first name only) from Things Remembered.  Even if she outgrows the necklace, she has the jewelry box to keep.
