We will have it done after we get married. I am also having the brca test because my mother died of breast cancer when I was young.

Yes, we are!  If anyone is in the Philly area, there will be free testing on June 13th at Elkins Park, I believe.  My MUA is helping to organize as her son has a very rare genetic disease they never used to test for.

Our rabbi won't marry us until we have the testing done. In Chicago, they do a seminar for $100 where they test for all the diseases.

We got married about 8.5 months ago. While it did come up in our sessions with the Rabbi we did not do it prior to the wedding and plan on doing it before we TTC

we had it done when we got engaged.   first i was tested, and if i had come out positive for anything FI would have then been tested.  as i was negative on everything, we didn't bother with step two.

we decided it was a good idea as both of us are ashkenazi and have almost identical heritage (mom's side german/hungarian, dad's side ukranian & lithuanian).

it seemed like the responsible thing to do at the time.

I had it done a few months ago.  It can't hurt and might help make the decision about starting a family.

We did it before we got married. Kaiser has a slew of them you can sign up for.
