[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Birth Control options without Healthcare? : First off, I just wanna say thank you. Thank you for not attacking me and being one of the first people to talk to me like an adult. I'm not normally quick to anger, it's just some of this stuff was extremely offensive and based entirely off assumptions. And trust me, I have grown up significantly even just since my last marriage ended, whether it seems like it to outsiders or not. I was rushed into the initial one because of the Army, and just the overall naivety of being a teenager. I more or less know what I'm doing this time, hence why I'm not rushing it [the wedding is more than a year away atm]. But thank you for the concern even though you don't me. Honestly, my FI and I are trying to avoid condoms at all cost; they'd be an absolute last resort to us, right before abstinence. We've considered them, but neither of us is very comfortable with it. I'm not discrediting that advice, I just don't want that to be my only option. And like I said, I was asking for people who had experience with other methods, and I distinctly said that I didn't want to go back on hormonal birth control. So I just feel that if they didn't have any experience with other methods, then they shouldn't bother posting because that's not what I asked for. That's all. I wasn't trying to get snotty with anyone.

Why aren't you comfortable with condoms? Just the feeling or you think they are going to fail?  What about the female condom, I think a couple people suggested that but I don't remember you responding to it?  I would also stop by a planned parenthood or WIC place, most do have weekend hours, or at the very least could send you through the mail some pamphlets and stuff on all the options.  I've thought about using a copper IUD, but I'm not sure how that works with egg donating.  I won't take hormonal birth control for personal reasons, so we use rubbers and timing (TMI but basically if I want sex, then I'm ovulating LOL). We HATE rubbers, but we aren't ready for another child yet. Anyway,at this point we're  still using condoms simply because we don't want to not have sex. They suck, and they are uncomfortable, but they are better than getting pregnant at this point.

[QUOTE]The problem is that there really aren't any other methods, especially if you're trying to avoid getting pregnant at all costs.  The highest success rates are for abstinence, FAM, condoms, and hormonal birth control.  Anything other than that is a crap shoot, even when used correctly.  You're asking for a miracle and yelling at us when we can't provide. Look, I can come here asking for a way to teleport into work because I'm tired of dealing with the commute, but railing against the heavens about all of the available options won't wish the teleportation process into existence.  You have to work with what's available.

That's pretty much where we're at.  I was denied hormonal birth control because of the risk of stroke, so we just use condoms religiously because we absolutely don't want children right now.  I'm really intrigued by FAM and we'll probably start charting soon, but honestly, we might still use condoms even then.  They suck less than any of the alternatives.

Yeah, I'm just not comfortable with them; they don't feel right and I am a bit paranoid about them breaking, even though I know that that statistic is decreasing rapidly. I'm just not sure why all these women are saying "Too bad if it's too tight, just do it," 'cause if it's too tight than it is much more likely to break. And then I'd be screwed. I'm also really dislike the female condom as well, moreso than the male ones. I tried them before, and it was extremely uncomfortable and awkward, and I really don't want sex with my FI to be awkward, ya know? And I can't stop by PP on the weekend 'cause I work during those hours. I don't exactly need a pamphlet 'cause I already know what they provide, seeing as how I used to go there when I first started having sex, to stay safe, and didn't want my parents finding out. But they only provide latex condoms and hormonal birth control, though I guess that's only as far as I know. Either way, it's way too late for me to be getting back on a hormonal birth control, which is what an IUD is, as well. And you need to have healthcare to get those put in, which I'm currently looking into and working on juggling my finances around now that I've got a proper job. And yeah, as far as I know, that would interfere with egg donation seeing as it is a hormonal birth control, and I can't be on any [eventually they'll be giving me fertility drugs to help me match up my cycle with the woman I'm donating to, so a hormonal bc would interfere with those and make me sick]. I hate condoms, too, and obviously I'm not ready for a child [pretty much solely due to financial reasons], so I don't want condoms to be my only option when I know there are other methods out there. I'm currently trying Ensure and the Today Sponge, but I'm not very fond of the sponge because it's difficult for me to get out on my own.

  • I hate condoms too... but them's the breaks eh?  ahem...no pun intended... Aside from spermicide (or some variant), which I don't think is ever recommended alone, I'm stuck... But then, my general knowledge in this is pretty small anyhow...  I don't currently use any form of bc, but that would be because I had a tubal after my 3rd baby.  Anyhow, good luck on it, and your engagement/wedding/marriage!

Copper IUD doesn't use hormones :) and prorgrams like WIC and PP will often put them in if
    you qualify :)
