Lets see those dresses!

Hey Girls,

All brides who have purchased their dresses please post here. Also brides who have yet to get dresses please post a dress that you like/love or some photos of dresses you've tried on!

I am also going to post the amount my dress cost as you can too, or the budget you have allotted. I think it is interesting to see what you get for your money.. and may give other brides who havent purchased yet an idea of how much they run! K.I.M. you dont have to post amount if you don't feel comfortable!

Now lets see those dresses!

    Budget: $500.00   Cost:   $469.00

ps. Please ignore my face. I'd tried on the dress without asking the price before hand. So I was scared. LOL.

Edit: There are also clips on the back because the straps don't fit.

YES! I LOVE DRESS TALK! Dreama you're dress is beautiful. I love the cap sleeve off the shoulder look...It's so classy! And WAY to go on the price. That's amazing.
My dress is Allure (I went back & forth between Maggie's "Ambrosia" and this). This dress was much lighter, so I'll be able to dance in it, and overall the entire store liked it better...Even though I still have DREAMS about Ambrosia. What a beauty she was!
Anyway I didn't have a budget but I bought the dress myself so I guess I had a mental budget. I didnt want to pay over $1500. I ended up paying $1600 but that is the dress + storage + pressing it for the big day+ up to $150 in alterations.
Here she is...Let's see if I can get this picture thing to work!

OH and my father called me yesterday. He is SUPER religious bible believer preach on the street kind of guy, God love him. He's poking around...Asking about my wedding.

So here's a little taste of Karns Method of Family Interaction

Dad "How much was your dress anyway? PLEASE tell me it's modest. Melissa...It's your wedding day please tell me you got a modest dress!"
Mel "Dad...don't worry about my dress. It's fine. It doesn't show anything."
Dad "I know the kind of stuff you like to wear Melissa. Should I bring a sweater for you just in case?"
Mel "No sweaters, dad. Nothing is showing."
Dad "Yea, well...We'll see I guess."

    Ugh...My dad is crazy.

Is anyone else going to have their father lecturing down the aisle and/or following you around with his suit jacket? LOL

Make sure the picture is saved on your computer somewhere.    There's a little button with a picture of a tree below the text box.  When you click that, a 'browse' window will pop up.  Just find the File through that, (e.g. My Documents/My Pictures/Wedding Dress/Picture2)  and hit save.  Voila!  PIP.

    Everything costs too much.

I decided that I can be thrifty when it comes to my current wardrobe (not really, but hypothetically I COULD). When it comes to a wedding dress...This is something you spend hours, days, months searching for. Something that will be captured in some of your most valued pictures, next to kids of course. Its symbolic of closing out the way you've lived your ENTIRE life, up until this point, and starting a new life. Do you want the first memory of this new life to be in a "this will do" dress? Hell NO! You should look good and feel good with your choice of dress. I guarantee nobody will remember that dress but YOU and YOU will never forget the way it makes you feel. So if your dress is a little over your budget, suck it up and shell it out or negotiate it down. Or even try to get someone to make it for a little less. But DONT settle for less than perfect.

You get one shot to pick the dress of your dreams. Do whatever it takes to get it!

Side Note: I'm on a rampage because the veil I want is $250. I'm gonna see if someone can make it for me. ITS JUST AN EFFING PIECE OF TULLE! Yell

This is someone else in my dress. Mine is currently being altered to fit as I type this (hopefully). I only hope I look as good as this girl did!

@mkarns: Your dress is gooorgeous. I love all the details on the skirt. Are those kind of like fabric rosettes? Really cool. And yeah, I think my dad might want to give me his jacket when he sees me in this. heh. And shout out to girls with no chest. That's the only thing that lets me get away with this dress.

Yes! They are fabric roses on the busts and on the skirt. They arent totally structured so it gives it a feathered look almost. Very couture!

I L-O-V-E your dress swjb. Love Love Love...So classic chic! What kind of wedding are you having with a sassy lace dress like that?

When I first went dress shopping I bought a dress last May. It was the very first I tried on and it was from David's Bridal. I got really lucky and spent only $100 because of the sale. I put it away and didn't even bother with it until about 2 months ago. When I took it out I wasn't in love with it anymore and wanted something completely opposite. It was a dress you needed to wear crinoline with. I didn't want that. It's a very pretty dress, but not what I wanted anymore. I wanted something more fitting. I went and tried on dresses again at Alfredo Angelo, Bridal Elegance, and Lex's. I didn't want to spend any more than $500. Well when I went into Alfred Angelo I had a bunch of dress styles I wanted to try on. None of the styles I tried on were what I thought they were going to be. I found one on the rack, tried it on and fell in love. I don't care for the rhinestones as much on the front. Because my wedding was less than a month away I took the one off the rack. It was half off and only $300! It was a size 6 and in dress' like these I wear a 4 so I needed alterations. I went to Nittaya's instead of having her do it through AA because they charge almost double of what she charges in her shop. For a bustle, hem, and taken in it was $225. Her work is well worth it! At my first fitting I took it home. You couldn't even tell the dress was altered. I don't have a picture of me in it but it's this one:

Thanks :) I don't try to be cheap but I definately try to save money! I wish I could sell the other because it's taking up a lot of much needed closet space. I put it on Craigslist but only got one bite. It's hard though because I live an hour and a half from Fredericksburg & Richmond.

</div><div>Thank you!!! I really can't wait until it actually fits me. I was one size in the hips and a size smaller in the bust, which obviously meant that we had to order to fit hips, which means that it needs a <em>lot </em>of work up top. I was all kinds of falling out of it and the upper back part was all puckery. It's in the hands of a cute Greek seamstress right now and apparently she's altered this dress before so hopefully it turns out ok!</div><div>
</div><div>The wedding is going to be at a winery so I'm going for a romantic, wild flowery, old iron lanterns and candle light kind of a feel. I think it should work with the romantic feel of a lace dress pretty well. I hope so anyway because I'm not about to change anything 1.5 months before the wedding! haha.</div><div>
</div><div>What about you and your sassy rosette dress? Do you know what kind of look/feel you want yet? Also, if you really want to freak your dad out, you should send him a picture of one of those Pnina Tornai dresses with the low cut see-through lace corset tops (PIP). Tell him that's what you're wearing. Then, when he sees how relatively modest your actual dress is he'll be totally relieved.</div><div>

I'm late to the game, but I have to share my dress, because I love it so much:

    http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?line=d&page=1&style=RD1044

It was around $1100, which included money for alterations, money for accessories (i.e. a veil), storage, etc.  And I truly love the dress, so I have no worries about regretting it six months from now, which I know happens to some brides.

I'm so impressed with everyone's dresses - they're all so beautitful.  Turns out Virginia brides have good taste :)

Ha! If my dad saw that Pnina dress he would have a heart attack! With my dress we're going for a classic romantic/but glamorous feel. I have opera length gloves to match my dress and red peep toe shoes *LOVE THEM* and red roses. My girls are wearing red dresses with red gloves and ivory roses. My man will be in black and ivory and his guys in black and red. Since I'm getting married in Dec we're going a little darker with lots and lots of candlelight. The venue we've chosen has great fireplace to seal the deal. I'm loving every minute of it and I can't waaaaaait to see all of my ideas really come to life.

I'm sure all of you feel the same way! The Knot has definitely been my crutch. My mom passed away and I've obviously never been married- so I've been using the site for guidance the whole way and it rocks! ++You girls and your advice.

I hope to hear more of your themes! So far they all sound awesome!

Sarah - the feeling is mutual...I LOVE your dress too!  The lace is gorgeous, and it will go so well with your winery theme.  Very, very elegant.

Our wedding isn't actually going to be on the beach, but I'm going for a more casual feel, and I felt a strong pull toward the flowy dresses.  And I'm trying to play up the flowers at the wedding, so the floral shoulder strap worked really well.

@mkarns: Your wedding sounds totally swank. I love the red gloves idea for the bridesmaids. Sounds very old hollywood/Jessica Rabbit. hehe.

So sorry to hear about your Mom! :( But I'm glad your fellow knotties can help out in any capacity.

@Becca: I felt a strong pull toward flowy too! And actually I thought I hated lace before I tried on my dress. If my sister hadn't prodded me to try on the one I ended up with I probably would have ended up in something similar to yours.

Hello Ginaec27...I feel like I saw on a blog maybe  A Practical Wedding where they recycle/donate dresses to other brides. You post it with pics and all of the deets and they will find a bride that wants your dress. They will pay for shipping.

I will double back and check the site and get back to you.

We WILL find someone for that other dress.

I got my dress from Alfred Angelo.

Had a budget of $1,000. Spent $966 on the dress and underskirt. Used a $300 coupon. Not expecting many alterations since the dress was ordered in my current size.

    Love my dress!

::I have tried to upload the picture of my dress on two occassions as a pdf and a tiff....it won't take it.::

    Boooo!
Here is a link though: http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?style=829
