Tips for Engagement Shoot

Hi ladies,

My engagement shoot is this Saturday and I'm looking for all the advice I can get because I'm really camera shy.

I booked Hawaii Wedding Productions (www.hawaiiweddingproductions.com) for video/photo on my wedding day as well as my upcoming engagement shoot. I know they'll do a fabulous job because I love the way my girlfriend's pics came out. Already have a beautiful dress picked out and scheduled to get my hair/makeup done in the morning. But I'm already getting nervous just thinking about being in front of the camera!

Please help! I'd love suggestions on how to pose, how to act natural, etc. I know the photographers can help me with this, but I feel like I need to practice!

Thanks,
Natasha Smile

Re: Tips for Engagement Shoot

  • Hello :) I also did an engagement shoot for just this reason, so that when the big day comes I wouldn't know how to take good pictures. If you have the right photgrapher that's all you need. I was so suprised how good my pics came out and really all we had to do was look at each other, talk, kiss, hold hands etc.....just act natural, it's amazing what a good photgrapher can do!

<div>That's true... Thanks for the advice! Much appreciated!</div>
  • I agree with this completely. When we had our engagement session it was our photographer that put us at ease and got us to go from completely awkward and uncomfortable to comfortable (albeit cold) by the end. It got rid of that awkwardness on the wedding day which was great.

I did an engagement session with a couple 2 weeks ago and I'm shooting their wedding in a few weeks. By the time we were done with the engagement session I knew a lot about them and we were joking around together. This time is really great to become comfortable with your photographer because you will spend more time with them than anyone else (even your husband to be) on your wedding day.

Dont worry about it, just show up looking cute and they'll take care of the rest :)
  • I agree with the pp. My FI and I were soooo nervous at first! But our photographer put us at ease right away! At some point, I even forgot that the was there taking pics except for the times when he told us to walk this way, jump there, pose like this...etc...

It'll be so much fun, your nervousness will melt away early on in the session!

  • It helps to let your photographer know your level of comfort and they will adjust.  For example, they may opt to stand farther away and shoot with a zoom lens so you almost forget you're being photographed.  Also, if you're really super nervous, meet your photographers for coffee for the first 20 minutes before your session.  This lets you get to know them a bit with the cameras down, so you're not so uncomfortable when they start shooting.  Mostly, just try not to worry too much about it.  Relax and have fun -- the best pictures come when you're really being yourselves together as a couple.  :)
