Three years ago today we started kissing

Today is my dating anniversary with BF. We are going out to dinner, probably exchanging gifts, and definitely being all lovely-dovey for the next 12+ hours.

What do you guys do to celebrate anniversaries?
How did you decide which day marked the start of things?
I like how after marriage there are gift themes for each year, cause I have THE HARDEST time picking an appropriate gift for him. This year he get car parts, which he asked for. Do you exchange gifts?

Happy Wednesday!

Hi! JenJen! Congrats on the anniversary!

We typically make a nice dinner or go out somewhere.

We decided on the date (I know, I know, this is a horrible story), by when he officially became single and let me know. He had a girlfriend when we first met. Things were already going south with her, but there were some issues that made breaking up a delicate situation. We met in August, and he wasn't able to completely get away from her until October. My birthday is in October, and when he asked what I wanted for my bday, I told him a card that said he was single. He surprised me with exactly that. So, we celebrate my birthday and anniversary together. He usually rolls both gifts into one.

I'm trying to remember what we got each other for our anniversary this past year, and for the life of me, I can't remember! How horrible is that! We usually ask each other what we want, and just go out and buy it. I also usually get him Malley's Chocolate.

Congrats!!!!  Where are you going to dinner?

We usually will go out to dinner & I don't think we really do gifts from what I remember... We definitely didn't this year because we went on a cruise the week before & it's also right before BF's bday which is right before mine.  We actually go from the first day we hung out because we were basically inseparable since then & haven't been with anyone else at all since then either.  So our date is June 9th, 2007.

This situation sounds a lot like my own.  We don't have an anniversary because it was too much trouble to figure out.  I don't mind though, we have random special nights any time we want.  Someday we'll have a real anniversary Tongue out

It's nice to know I'm not alone. People usually give me that homewrecker look when I tell them the story of how we started dating. In our defense, after I knew he had a girlfriend, we didn't see each other alone anymore :)

Our situation was a lot like Ember's, only I was the one in the relationship that had been going South for awhile. We broke up on Sunday, FI and I went and played pool on Monday, went to a party together on Friday, and then basically spent the whole rest of the weekend together. So we basically just picked the Friday of the party as our anniversary. The day we played pool was more just a friendly thing (he didn't know what was going on my mind since I had just ended a year long relationship) and we started getting "couple-y" at the party.

Oh, and we really don't do anything special for anniversaries. We're too broke. Sometimes we'll go out to dinner, but no big gifts.

Yeah, I feel like people judge when I tell them the story of how we started, but we didn't really hang out at all while I was in the relationship, just talked mostly. I think people really judged me when I moved on so quickly, but they really didn't know what went on in the previous relationship and how long I had emotionally been done with it...

I love the title of your post. So sweet!

What do you guys do to celebrate anniversaries?
We generally make a romantic dinner, maybe get a room for the night and just spend some quality time with each other.

How did you decide which day marked the start of things?
BF and I don't remember exactly  when we officially began dating. We were set up on a blind date in November...so we picked Dec. 1 as our anniversary date because it's easy to remember and it's not too close to Thanksgiving or Christmas. haha.

    Do you exchange gifts?
We do exchange gifts, but we're not big on "stuff". We generally give each other experiences. Hotel stays, trips, excursions, parks passes...things like that. We'd so rather see a new place or share a new experience together than buy knick knacks or jewelry.

Haha! We have no anniversary either. I obviously know the month we started dating. I know it was the second half of the month, but if you were to ask me what the date was, I would have no idea!

Around that time, I guess we go to dinner or a special date night, but since we have no idea when our anniversary is, I guess you could say we don't celebrate it. But we do, of course, do special things throughout the year, so I don't really miss having one. And like you said, we plan on marriage, so we'll always have that anniversary to look forward to.

FI and I met over the interwebz (I emailed him through MySpace to try to learn some things about Phoenix before I moved there). So our anniversary date is the date he flew to Tampa to meet me and we met/kissed/said I love you for the first time. (It was a VERY eventful day!)

We usually go out to dinner and just exchange cards. FI doesn't think we should celebrate anniversaries until we're married. He's in luck, because our dating anniversary doesn't come around again until after we get married! :)

    Interesting stories!

I was always kinda bothered that I was the GF after the big break up with his ex. He randomly IMed me soon after their break up, after 5 years of us not talking. So he was single for like 4 months before we started dating and I had been single for what seemed like forever! (I hadn't had a "boyfriend" for like over a year).

We are going to The Melting Pot! I love fondue (CHEESE!), and we make it at home sometimes, but this is the restaurant that inspired my love for fondue.

We have done trips instead of gifts before. But this year he seems to be up to some serious gift idea which makes me fluster for an awesome gift for him. I went with one practical I know he will use/enjoy and one cute-sy gift.  Plus I picked a cute card. Mostly it is fun reflecting on the last three years with him.

When I first met BF he was in the process of getting divorced, but from the day we met we were inseperable. So our anniversary, May 15, is the day we met, I think. At least it's somewhere around there. We kept our relationship on the DL for almost a year just because BF was afraid of how his family would react. Apparently we weren't good at keeping a secret because when BF finally told his parents about me they were like "about time! now bring her over for your niece's bday tomorrow!" His mom has facebook so she had seen the pictures of BF with a mystery girl (me) haha.

So everyone knows we've been together more than 2 years, but they didn't know about it until a year in!

We went out for dinner on the anniversary but didn't exchange gifts, and I probably won't push for gift giving in the future (until we end up married with a "real" anniversary.)

I looooooooove the Melting Pot. It's so expensive though, so we only go on rare occasions. Although, I just bought their recipe book and am excited to try it at home!

Usually go to dinner at our traditional restaurant, where we had our first date.

How did you decide which day marked the start of things?
I'm glad to know I'm not alone. FI's and my anniversary is basically the day I broke up with my ex (like others, the relationship was already headed south). We hadn't been going around behind anyone's back or anything, we just spent a lot of time together one summer as friends and it suddenly both kinda hit us that we were with the wrong people. The breakups were going to happen anyway, we just ended up going headfirst into a new relationship right after. Most of our friends thought it was just a rebound fling...

    Do you exchange gifts?
Yep. Last year I got him a firepit and this year I did a theme gift and got him a bunch of board and yard games. (Thanks to the ladies who made that suggestion - he loved it!) This year, he gave me an engagement ring :)

swhite- Yea I'm bummed its so pricey. But I haven't gone since like 2007 and I want to be served a lot of cheese and chocolate :)
We have a little fondue pot from Crate and Barrel and use this recipe for cheese- Cheesy Beer Fondue. Oddest thing we've gotten to dip was those party hot dog things? The pigs without their blankets? And apples and bread and... mmm is it lunch time yet?

FI and I went to Melting Pot when they had their Alpine Big Night Out and they provided pickles with the cheese. I thought it was weird, then I tasted it and it was brilliant! lol

BF and I were friends for about 6 months before we went on our "first date" last May (I think it was the 6th? I'm really not sure) but after that we were on-again-off-again for about 6 months. I had gotten out of a 3 year relationship in Sept. of 2009 and just wasn't ready to be in a relationship for a while. Luckily, he waited for me to come around. :)

Our official dating anniversary is 11/1/10 so it hasn't been a year yet technically. We like to go to dinner on our "monthaversaries," and we try a new place each time. I've cooked a couple times too for us, which was fun. We're both sorta broke now so for last month we made dinner for each other (homemade pizza and champagne, yummy).

We're long distance now, so I don't think we'll be able to be with each other on our actual 1st anniversary, boo. We'll probably do something special whenever we can see each other, though, and I'm looking forward to many more anniversaries where we'll actually be with each other!
And if the stormy weather came...I'd just kiss you in the rain... Daisypath Anniversary tickers image

Haha...my story is a lot less honorable.  I was the one with someone...LDR, was on the decline for quite a while.  Ended up cheating on him with current BF until I finally got the courage to end it (it was a long relationship, couldn't make up my mind, never broke up with anyone before...lots of factors here).  Time versus emotions...blah.  I ended up where I needed to be.

Same! I was with my ex-bf when now-bf & I first started hanging out, etc.  It had been going down hill for a really long time but I didn't have the courage to end it.

Liv- Those are super cute ideas...

I was trying to come up with something having to do with our first date, but the restaurant we went to closed, but they have a DC location. So I was gonna get take out and have him meet me in a park near our apt. But I thought it might be like 3 hours of the take out sitting in my car before we ate it. So I settled for fondue :)

Congrats!  Have a great time! Where are you going to dinner?

What do you guys do to celebrate anniversaries?  We go to dinner or do something we love.  Sometimes we don’t do anything.  It depends on our money at the time.
How did you decide which day marked the start of things? The day we went on our first date, the 23.  :)  Of course that was our second time meeting too.  Do you exchange gifts?

Sometimes.  I enjoy doing it but like I said it depends on the money.

    Happy Anniversary! :)

We started dating in high school, so our anniversary is on the day he actually asked me to be his GF. Aww. lol

We did gifts for the first four years, but for the last two we did a mini-trip to Niagara Falls instead. I think that tradition is sticking (at least until it gets replaced with a wedding anniversary). Our anniversary is in January and I love how empty the Falls area is in the winter. It's like we have the whole place to ourselves! Much better than summer time. This year we're hoping to be able to do a two day trip, instead of a one day, but we'll see.

We exchange cards and I make us a Shutterfly photobook of our previous year together to keep, a tradition I love and want to keep up when we celebrate a wedding anniversary someday. We typically go somewhere that we had one of our first dates. Year one we went to a Sox game (that was our first date) and last year we went to the restaurant where we had our second date. If we stay with that, this year we'll go to the museum where we had our third date.
