Wedding Recap and Withdrawal

What were you doing the last week before your wedding?

So I keep hearing from everyone that the week before the wedding is so chaotic.. and that I should take off from work so I have enough time to do everything.
I really can't think of what I would need to be doing that would be so crazy... I know I'll have to do the seating chart/place cards, but that shouldn't take TOO long...I think I have everything else pretty much figured out. We'll just need to drop off stuff at the reception hall and pick up FI's tux.. but that should only take an hour or so.

I currently plan on taking off the day before the wedding and that's it..
So tell me, what were you busy doing the week before your wedding?

Re: What were you doing the last week before your wedding?

  • I took Wed, Thurs and Friday off before our wedding.  My family flew in Wednesday morning.  All we did that day was pick up my dress and finish up the really last minute stuff (escort cards).  All day Thursday we drove around picking things up and dropping things off between the ceremony, reception and guest hotels.  Friday afternoon we checked into the hotel and then went to the rehearsal dinner.   So while we didn't do too much during those 3 days off, it would have been stressful if I hadn't had 3 days in which to do them.  Plus, I woke up Saturday morning well rested with zero nerves.
  • I haven't yet had my week before but its getting close. I'm taking off that week from Tuesday on because I have lots of vacation leave. Fi's parents fly into town that day and Fi can't take off so I'm playing host.

Wednesday - going to get dress with FMIL,  F-grandma, and FI's sister.

Thursday - hair trail appts with the moms, taking items to the venue, making oot bags

Friday - decorate church, decorate rehearsal dinner area, have the rehearsal and do the dinner

And this is really and over simplified version of what needs to be done. I would say if you can swing time off  . . do it! I'm sure you last minute details will need to be done and if nothing else you can just enjoy a day off.
  • Hmm..... well I don't have any OOT guests coming that I'd need to see... I don't have any decorating to do. I guess I'll have to pick up my dress, but the store is about 2 minutes from my house, so I can zip over there any time.
We will need to drop off the favors, etc at the reception hall, and the OOT bags at the hotel, so we can do that in one trip. And I don't need to drop anything off at the church, but if I did need to, we are having the rehearsal there the night before, so I could bring the stuff with me then. I plan to get my nails done two nights before.. so hopefully I'll be good with just the one day off before! That would still give me all night on Wednesday and all day on Thursday to do whatever I needed to do before the wedding on Friday. :)
  • I worked through Wednesday the week of my Friday wedding and I was fine.  Husband took off the entire week but his brother came into town early.

I didn't have much last minute stuff to get done either though (no decorating, etc..) so I think the only time I felt a little crazy was the actual day off when our hair appt. ran way long and the MUA was a no-show.

  • I worked til noon Wednesday of my sat wedding- if you can't think of anything you'll do, then you'll be fine- we did our centerpieces ourselves and had to decorate our reception, so we spent the day before the wedding setting up tables, laying tablecloths and centerpieces, etc. We also had some VIP out of town family so that wednesday we spent the whole day with them since it got busy the other days.

Some stuff may creep up on you (i'm not a big makeup person and hadn't thought much about it, so the day before the wedding my bridesmaids and I were at the clinique counter, figuring out my entire look! Probably should have decided earlier. Or we did a big photo display that was finished pretty last minute), but if you're organized, maybe not. If you've thought it all through, maybe you'll be in the clear. Congrats!

  • I didn't have much to do the week before. I just took the Friday off. My rehearsal dinner was Thursday night. Friday morning I slept in, went shopping and checked into the hotel Friday night. I already had everything done. My week was not chaotic, it was pretty relaxing!

I guess I am pretty organized..so hopefully I'll be good!
I have someone booked to do my hair and makeup, so that won't be a problem.. I think the main thing will be confirming all details with everybody that week..
  • I was not working right before our wedding, but I did teach Vacation Bible School at our church right before we drove back to our home state for the wedding.

I worked Monday and Tuesday.  Did a "date night" with the FI - dinner at one of our fav places - no wedding talk allowed.  ;)

Wed - massage in the AM, picked up dress, parents arrived from OOT, did the OOT gift bags, dinner with my folks, ILs and FI

Thurs - picked up license, did the escort cards, wrapped up a few little DIYs, packed up all the stuff for the venue decorating, dinner with FI, my folks, and my brother and his family

Fri - many OOT guests arrived - visited with them, decorated the reception venue, rehersal  & dinner

    Sat - wedding!

  • I took Thursday and Friday off for our wedding on a Saturday.  I wish I would have given myself one more day.  Not because I needed more time to get ready, but because a lot of my friends and family members were in town early for the wedding and it would have been nice to have more time to visit everyone.  Even though our weddign was only 50 guests I still only got about 10-20 minutes to talk to each guest at the wedding.

I took off starting Wednesday for our Saturday wedding. I wasn't sure what would need to be done, but figured when I requested it, that if I didn't NEED the time to do stuff, I'd just take advantage of having the time and chill out or hang out with whoever was here. We weren't as organized as everyone else, so it turned out that I really needed those days. Wednesday I ran errands (FI took off starting Thurs) and then got my color touched up, had a facial & got my eyebrows done. TThursday we both ran errands--including getting the license. Friday I had lunch and got mani/pedis with mom, two bridesmaids, and one of our fg's and her mom. Then we checked into the hotel and got ready for the rehearsal. I was just looking at all the pictures--it went by SO fast!!! =)
  • i actually stopped working the monday before. i spent the rest of the week relaxing, last minute pedicure, etc. then thursday family started to come in
