  Some brides spend this time doing formal pictures. If you do first look and most of your pictures before the ceremony and have the time then sure why not.

  I think most people use the cocktail hour to take pictures of the WP and family.  If you get done with the pictures in time for cocktail hour, why not join in?  Unless you are going to have a grand entrance at the reception, and then being at cocktail hour would be kind of wierd.
