Cost of alterations???

Hi Girls,

I am wondering if you can tell me how much you were quoted or paid for alterations?

I know I need a hem and most likely to take it in. I am also going to take out some poof at the bottom.

I was told by one place to budget between $300-$600.
Then $475 just for a hem and to take it in by another and to de-poof would be extra.

Depending on which place I buy it at it would be $1285 or $1071. That cost is just for the dress with out alterations.

I have no idea what to do and I'm nervous to take it somewhere besides the dress shop I end up buying it from. It's just crazy that its almost the cost of a second dress!

So, what is everyone else paying????

Call Dressmaking by Dolly in Hudson. My dress is there right now and I'm probably looking at $175.00 for alterations....taking in the sides and hemming it.

I paid for a hem and also to have the dress taken in (about one dress size due to weight loss). The cost at Modern Bride was $250. The bustle was included in the price of the dress--so no extra cost for that.

I second Dress Making by Dolly. I paid $200 for it to be taken in (a lot), cups sewn in and a bustle. You can see the pics in my bio.

I also went to Dolly (thanks, nesties). I had a bustle and a little taken in for $150. She's been great to work with, although she can chat your ear off

I am going to Dressmaking by Dolly also. I haven't gotten a quote yet from her but my sister went there and had her dress hemmed, taken in, and a bustle added and she paid somewhere around $150.

I'm paying $325 for a hem, bustle, bra cups, taking it in at the bust, letting it out at the bodice, and then steaming.

I'm another Dressmaking by Dolly client.

I have... 2 dresses... the ceremony dress she's hemming and taking in a bit, the reception dress she's putting in a bustle, hemming and takoing in a bit - $300.

I know 2 dresses seems excessive, but I paid $250 / dress at Running of the Brides.

I also did Dolly in Hudson. I paid $150 for a bussle, cups, steam and press the dress, veil, and crinoline.

Another place to check would be Olga off of Main St. in Nashua. She does great work.
