Need an affordable venue for my wedding

I just got engage 2 months ago and I've waited until the engagement excitement passed before I started looking for the right location and venue for the wedding. I'm located in the Bronx and my fiance made is clear that he don't want the wedding to be in the Bronx. I looked at Glen Island Harbor Club yesterday and although it's a beautiful location, it is out of my price range. I set my budget for the wedding for $10,000 but finding a place for the wedding is very frustrating and difficult.

What I would like to find is a location for both the ceremony and the reception. I like the scenery of water, garden setting, woodsy or perhaps like a park setting with a pond or a river, just so you get an idea. I'm having 150 guest and the theme of the wedding is carribean/southern style. I was hoping to include some foods from the carribean and from the south, however, the venues that I looked at either don't allow outside catering or they will allow outside catering but only to suplement with their catering service. I'm frustrated because so far my fiance don't like the locations that I've suggested and I'm in the verge of just calling the whole thing off. I don't know where else to look that is affordable, withing my budget and yet have elegance and class to have a beautiful wedding. If anyone have any suggestions or ideas, I would gladly appreciate and welcome all suggestions.

Re: Need an affordable venue for my wedding

  • My husband and I thought the very same thing and wanted a 10-12k budget wedding and we did not succed and we only had 100 guests. We are from NY but got married in Maine where everything is MUCH cheaper too. The best advice I can give you is work on your budget a bit more and start with your catering. You might be able to do a park (Hecksher, Caumsett, or South Haven) if you can get the proper permits. It would cost you almost next to nothing but everything would have to be DIY and you can do a BBQ kinda vibe. South Haven would probably be the most accomodating but I would worry about bugs depending on the time of year you wanted to get married.
  • Have you considered cutting the guest list so that you can spread the money a little further?  $10,000 for 150 is going to be tough to do in NY.  What about having the ceremony with just closest friends at church or whereevern and then having the reception party at a party hall that you can decorate and bring in food yourself?
    Good luck!
  • ok first-if you want to call it off b.c your FI doesnt like suggestions then i'd probably say to wati a while. planning a wedding is stressful. if you can't deal with him saying no to just venues then i'd take a step back.
now onto your issue. with that budget it's going to be VERY tough. you do have a few options-first-cut your guest list. that's the easiest way to save. 2nd-choose an off day and off season0like a thursday in feburary. prices are MUCH lower than high season saturday night weddings.
3rd-you may have to nix the outside caterer idea. perhaps save the caribbean food for your rehearsal dinner.
or put off the wedding for some time and save more money until you can afford exactly what you want, the time of year you want, the date etc...

  • Back again, party booth?  You've been reported.
