lighting issues please help

I love where my reception area is. Only one problem there is a drop ceiling with bright florence lights. I need help, I want to some how make it more darker with out turning off all the lights. Is there any film or paper i can put over it to make it not as bright . I cant find anything online, has anyone changed the lighting. (here is a picture of the inside)

DId you ask them what they normally do for weddings? It's possible that they turn half of the lights off,and then you could have candles on the tables.

you can put tissure paper in the florescent fixtures..it won't catch fire the bulbs don't burn hot enough

^ i seccond the tissue paper i did it in my dorm room with pink tissue paper

although i would use something like paper lanterns to cover the lights and create a 'softer' glow

I assume by "florence" you mean fluorescent. Gel is really more appropriate for changing the color of lights than tissue paper is, and is easily available online. You could also ask around on craigslist for someone locally who is willing to light your reception cheaply (local theater students are a good bet!), and do away with the built-in fixtures entirely.
