I know. <div>I think she needs to get a new number. </div><div>
</div><div>Also, </div><div>Can someone tell me the rules on collections? If I am actively answering my phone and talking to these people (and explaining to them what's going on) do they have any right to be calling our family members? </div><div>I called and put a stop to that today, but I mean...I just talked to these people on Friday...idk  why they would call H's G-ma today.</div>

<div>You can report them to the BBB.  It might be that they've heard that "Oh, this is a wrong number," story before so they're just checking.  Which sucks, because you are an honest person and other people have screwed things up for you.</div>

Well, It's actually ours. Our apartment complex sent over our whole amount to collections (even though if someone moves in, that amount gets deducted + the manager told me to wait to pay). <div>I talked to the guy on Friday, told him I would talk to H to see what we wanted to do (since someone is supposed to move in on 5-10) and get back with him. </div><div>He called me today and left a VM while I was in a customer's office, then next thing I know H's Gma has a voice mail. </div><div>
</div><div>He wouldn't answer me why they called even though they've been in contact with me and I've been cooperative.</div>

    Try referring to this. <a href="http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf" rel="nofollow">http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf</a>

I think it applies to debt collections and advertisers. Discover Card (which I don't have) kept calling me at work til I threatened them with this. They quickly quit that ish. Also, if you can find the company related to the number (it takes some digging), forward a certified cease and desist letter to them.

I read that earlier, and it looks like I'm covered since I called them back and told them to knock that crap off. <div>
</div><div>I'm just really frusterated with them...I tried talking to someone other than who I talked to the last time (who was really nice for a debt collector) and he was just terrible. Kept asking me if I had an attorney and "If you go to court you have to prove X". I never mentioned going to the court. All I was doing was telling him I wanted to wait until the 10th to pay to see if that person moved in. </div><div>He then told me that since I was "denying" he'd go ahead and report to the credit bureaus, and before I could tell him (again) that's not what I was saying he hung up.</div>

  • Kathleen, a long time ago H had a similar problem with an apartment complex.  He had his lawyer-sister read over his lease and the letters he was receiving from the complex and collections and she started working out some things he could do.  However, just threatening to take them to court was enough to get them to back off.  I don't know if that would work in your case since they're the ones bringing it up.

I'm thinking about calling the manager at the collections place to see what this attorney baloney is all about. <div>I asked him why I would need an attorney because I wasn't denying anything...and he just kept asking.."do you have an attorney?" "Do you have an attorney?"</div>

  • Sorry you're dealing with all that, Kathleen. :(  I can only imagine how frustrated and irritated I would be.  I hope you're able to get it cleared up soon!
