Inexpensive Ceremony/reception venues?

Hey SA gals! I was wondering if anyone knew of any unique and/or inexpensive venues in San Antonio, New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, ect...

My FI and I are college students, and my mother has literally NO money after paying for my dad's med expenses and funeral, so the budget is really small since my FI and I are completely paying for it. It wouldn't be too hard to find something, but the wedding is in January so it can't be outdoors. Any suggestions?

Do you have an idea of how many guests you will be expecting and a budget in mind?  (Like, under 2K or 1000?)

Sorry I should have mentioned that. I am doing a small wedding, >=100 people and preferably >$1000 for the venue (not counting food, my mother's friends are doing that).

I am going by the Brauntex theatre to see if they allow wedding receptions, but I have a feeling that any smaller place like that is going to charge more merely because of the word "wedding." Is it okay to just call it a party until after contracts are signed or is that dishonest?

I wouldn't do that with the venue only because if they find out they could say it's breach of contract or something. But I do agree that it's ridiculous for a place/caterer etc to charge more just cuz it's a wedding.

I'm in San Antonio, so the only ones I really know anything about are here, I don't know if that's less convenient for you.

This one is $925 rental. I rented the bigger banquet room from them for our wedding reception. This one is roomy enough so 100 people wouldn't feel cramped at all, but they don't allow ceremonies since they are church owned. (I'm not a member)

This hall is really pretty but it's about $1500. You could use the courtyard for a ceremony though.

This one is on the Riverwalk and it's GORGEOUS. We just had too many people to fit in it. It's $1300 I think, but ceremony is allowed there too.

This one is $1200, but they don't allow ceremony because they're owned by a church too.

I'm not sure what all of their requirements for catering are, but sanantonioweddings.com has contact info for them and has info on some New Braunfels sites too. Hope this helps and good luck!!

Thank you so much for those links! I have a SA wedding magazine but I had completely forgotten about looking at the website!

you should try Northern Hills Golf Club. They have an outdoor ceramony site and indoor reception sites. we went to the bridal extravaganza and ended up getting a discount. only paying 1200 for both ceramony and reception.

  • Does anyone know of a nice wedding / reception venue indoors for both? I keep checking churches but they don't allow video, have to be a member or have to have counseling with them. We are from out of state and are getting married in Texas for family convenience.
