Snarky Brides

Thursday!!!

One more day (after today) and then it's the weekend!!!

I've worked between 12 and 15 hours the past two days, and am expecting something similar today and tomorrow.  My brother is coming into town for the weekend, so I have tons of cleaning to do too.  I hate working hours like this (it was unexpected, I thought I'd have a 9 hour day Tuesday, and the rest of the week would be similar) so I've been living on weird meals that I've scrounged together because I haven't had the time or energy to go to the store.  Blech.

Also, my mom's Birthday is next week.  Anyone have any good gift suggestions?

Re: Thursday!!!

  • I can't wait till the weekend! This week has felt like it has went by quickly, but slowly at the same time. Does that make any sense?

dtbluv - What kind of interests does your mom have? What does she like to do? My suggestions would be shots in the dark without knowing a little about her. Also do you have a price range in mind?

  • How's everyone's Thursday? I'm looking forward to the weekend and sleeping in. I've been so tired lately. Nothing else exciting going on. Right now I'm waiting on some work to be given to me. Until then, I have nothing to do.

Tonight I think I'm going to saute a bunch of spinach and serve some sort of warm chicken salad on top of it and have it be somewhat greek inspired.

  • Well dtb I'm probably your mom's age so here's what I would like:  a GC for somewhere to be pampered a little; either a haircut at a fave salon or a spa for a massage or a facial.  One year our sons got my BF and me upgraded spa services from a local place.  His girlfriend at the time worked there so they were able to get upgraded and not pay for the upgrade.  My friend and I had a blast going for pedicures, facials, and haircuts.
  • Buzz, that sounds delicious.

My mom is turning 47, and she loves reading.  She has a Nook though, and her account is linked to mine (and my grandma's) and I pay for all the books anyway so I can't do a book as a gift.  She works a lot, and really hard, as a math specialist in an elementary school.  She enjoys going to wineries and having tons of friends over, but she doesn't drink at all so nice wine is out.  She hates cooking, shopping, and having to wear anything dressier than sweatpants on the weekend.

So far my ideas have been getting a massage and pedicure together (maybe with her mom), or making her 30 days of food, so she won't have to cook at all, she can just pull something out of the freezer, or buying her a new outfit because she hates shopping.  We also went to Hawaii over Christmas, so I'd like to do a little photo album or something for her.  Unfortunately I have more money than time right now, so a photo album may not turn out as well as I hope.  And I'd like to keep it under a hundred dollars.
  • Good morning ladies!

I am also counting down to the weekend, although I need to work on Saturday so its more like counting down until Sunday.

I'm right on the edge of getting sick, I'm fighting it like mad and trying to rest but I'm so busy these days and now I feel really far behind on school.

Not sure what I'm doing for dinner, I have class tonight so FI usually cooks and brings my dinner into the office for me (all my classes are live online). Smile

dtbluv--I was going to suggest some type of spa gift too! massage, pedicure, etc. Everyone could always use a little relaxation.

B2Z--I've been dragging too...must be the weather. That and between starting to exercise I am just wiped at the end of the night. Your diinner plans sound yummy! What type of warm chicken salad are you putting on top? I've been a spinich freak lately trying to eat healthy.

Last night I made some last min dinner and margarita plans with a friend I used to work with and don't get to see very often. Much needed!! On my way home I got called back for a final interview for next week. So fingers crossed!! I can't stand my job now and need a fresh start. We are waiting on getting hit with a huge snow storm tonight...I saw go big or go home. Might as well snow as much as possible and maybe I can get a 4 day weekend out of it!

  • Angel - didn't you just get over something?
rel - good luck w/ interview and waiting on the snow myself.
  • Good Morning everyone.

I whitened my teeth last night and they hurt way bad today.
but today is my friday sooo... it will be worth it. I just need to get today over with and I can go home.

Fi is back in wyoming again so I think I will just lounge around and clean.

  • dtb - the massage and pedicure sounds like a great idea, if you know she likes that sort of thing. Some people don't like massages and aren't comfortable with them, I on the other hand love them and think that's a great gift for someone who appreciates it. The photo album would be really nice too. They don't take all that long to make. I bet you could get one done in an hour. I just got an email from Shutterfly that says they're having a 50% off sale till next Wednesday. Also a free shipping code for an order over $30 is SHIP30.

Rel - The warm chicken salad is gonna be made up on the fly, but right now I'm thinking about roasting chicken breasts in the oven and then shredding them. I'll then mix it up with some greek yogurt, maybe fresh dill if I can find it, diced raw zucchini (I like the crunchiness) and possibly some chopped walnuts. Probably a squeeze a lemon juice plus salt and pepper, and maybe oregano. This will all go on top of sauteed spinach, onions and garlic I think. We have a large container of it from Costco that I should cook before it goes bad.

Angel - take your vitamins and eat healthy! I hope you fight off the cold!

  • Good morning everyone!
Having a pretty bad morning at work. I work in insurance and have been on the phone with underwriters all morning. I cannot believe some of the things we have to go thru to get people insured. This guy came in this morning to get car insurance and he ended up leaving with car & home insurance. Its good for the company but bad for me because now I have to go thru like a million different hoops to get all his paperwork cleared. My boss gave me this project yesterday and its alot of work. Not to mention, I havent even started on my daily tasks yet (printing new policies, filing them, etc). Its going to be a long day.
Anyway, please please tell me that I am not the only one who has a FI/SO who is addicted to gaming?! Last night, FI spent 6 hours playing his xbox. I didnt mind too much because it gave me time to catch up on all my trashy tv shows (bgc10 & mobwives) but I started getting a little irritated when it was after midnight and he was still playing. I really dont mind that he plays video games, but I do mind when they get in the way of other things. He didnt even want to stop playing for a few minutes to finish up making dinner!!! & talking to him while hes playing is like talking to a brick wall. I dont know how to talk to him about it anymore because I am so fed up. & everytime I try to mention it, he just makes it seem like its not that big of a deal & Im just overreacting. Sorry, I just needed to vent.
I had a wedding nightmare last night. Two of my BMs didnt even have their dresses on the wedding day, my brother didnt have his tux, and nobody would help me into my dress or finish my make up even tho we were already late for the ceremony (which began at 11am for some reason?). I think I might have had it because I was talking to FI yesterday about how its only 6 months away! Scary.

Dtb...I like the meals idea. If she doesnt like to cook, she will really appreciate that.

Sierra, my H likes to plays like WOW and Diablo online. He'll also sometimes play Xbox games, but not as often. Fortunately, he knows how to balance real life, time with me, and time spent playing games so it's never been a big issue for me. He'll mostly play at night after I've gone to bed, for a short while after work before we eat dinner, or on the weekends when either of are doing nothing.

But my ex sounds more like your FI. And honestly it drove me insane. I would like to hope that your FI is better than how he was though. Your level headed, so I think he is - otherwise you wouldn't put up with it. My Ex didn't really have his priorities straight. His friends and him playing video games were more important than me, spending time with me, and making our relationship work. When I tried to talk to him about it he would get defensive. It was a one way street. This was one of many, many things that was wrong with our relationship.

I would try to talk to him about it. Don't start the conversation when he is mid game or anything like that. Tell him how it makes you feel and try to talk it out. Best of luck on dealing with it.

Thank you for the advice! I am going to try to talk to him about it without getting flippy. I just hate when he makes it seem like its no big deal & Im the crazy one for making a big deal about it. I dont want to come off as the nagging FI but I really just want to tell him hes acting like a child about these video games.

  • Hi guys,
I have been lurking on the Knot for a while but thought I would say hi. I really should be working on a report for one of my graduate classes but I don't wanna...:(

This week has been exciting and nerve-bracking. I had a second-level job interview for a job that is just perfect for me. Kind of my dream starter job after grad school both in terms of what I would be doing and where the job it located. It would also mean that FI and I could finally move out of CA's central valley and up to the bay area with his family which we have wanted to do for years. I won't know if I got the job or not until early next week. I am going to be useless until I know either way.

Sierra524: I've actually started having wedding-related dreams too. Some good, some bad. The other night I dreamed that I couldn't find the church even though the town we're getting married is so small you can walk anywhere. Kind of odd.

  • Hi Jsh - Good luck on the job prospect!

I had so many wedding dreams leading up to my wedding. It was crazy. And every now and then, even though I was married almost 7 months ago, a crazy wedding dream will still happen.

  • tlc, good luck with the realtor!

General question to anyone who can answer it, as I don't feel like starting a new thread for it. I want to make a link in my signature into something clickable. How do I do this?

  • Thanks ladies, I'm trying to stay healthy. I work with kids, so I catch a lot of things. This time it was FI's fault though, he was moaning on the couch with an epic man cold last week. It's a miracle he's still alive. Gaming was a bit of an issue with us in the beginning, but we discussed it openly and he saw that it really bothered me so we put limitations on it together. (e.g. I never hassle him on Monday's when he plays hockey online with his boys). It's really worked out well!
