• Holy shiit. It seems the sudden lack of insurance has also affected her prescription for crazy pills.

OTOH, it's been very informative re: costs of birth control.
• Wow! How often does the CC board get a 5 pager! This was really pretty amusing AND helpful for many. I think we at least owe the OP thanks for entertaining and educating people with the same post and lame follow-ups.

• I might be late on this one but how is it that so many girls are trying so hard to get pregnant & it'd be a moron like this who'd get pregnant because they just can't figure out how to get birth control.
Go to City Hall get married quick & get some damn health insurance before you do reproduce.
Ok, so I just found out that my health insurance has finally been cancelled (I was on my ex-husband's policy and as we recently got divorced, I was obviously removed from the policy), and at the moment, my FI and I just don't have the extra money to afford health insurance since we're saving up for the wedding. I want to know if anyone knows where I could get cheap birth control, maybe from a pharmacy or store like Walmart? I'm allergic to latex condoms, and we can't find non-latex ones that are big enough. I was also supposed to start my pack this past Sunday, so by the time I'd be able to make it into a Planned Parenthood, my whole schedule would be messed up. And I'm only looking for temporary for the rest of this month and most of October because I'm donating eggs at the end of November, so I have to be off any kind of hormonal birth control for a month before I go in. Does anyone have any experience with OTC birth control methods that they'd recommend for the month that I need to be on them?
Posted by Hietaro
So I haven't read through more than one page here, so I don't know if the OP GBCK'd...

However, in response to the bolded section: BULL SH!T. You can literally take a condom and stretch it over your head. YOUR HEAD, as in the thing connected to your neck that has brains in it. If your FI (and really, you just got divorced so I definitely give you the side-eye for getting married already) won't use a polyurethane condom then he is asking to be a daddy. Please tell me your guy doesn't have a penis the size of your head-- please.

And also-- get health insurance. It's not unaffordable. It is WAY more important than any pretty princess day you might be planning.
• Well, when we first started dating, DH mentioned that the condoms that he bought (not Trojan, another brand) were kind of uncomfortably tight. Maybe some of them don't stretch very well? He uses the standard Trojans just fine, though.

•
at the moment, my FI and I just don't have the extra money to afford health insurance since we're saving up for the wedding.
I'm sorry, what? Health insurance > wedding costs. Postpone the wedding until you can afford health care, unless your wedding is, like, next week. Your deposits are a sunk cost. Better yet, get married at city hall so you can be put on your new DH's insurance and have the party regardless.

• Maybe you should try other pharmacies if you can't find non latex condoms. You may also be able to order them online. I'm not a fan of condoms to begin with so I don't know too much about them. I'm on the pill but I have insurance. A friend of mine used the Nuva ring, she would get it from planned parenthood. Also, if you have an OBGYN you can always explain to them your situation with your insurance right now and they may give you a few free packs of birth control.

I have to order my scripts online through Medco and one time my order wasn't processed right away and i wouldn't have gotten my pack in time, so my OBGYN gave me a 2 month supply to hold me over. They get sample packs all the time.
• I am honestly unsure of why you all think I'm stupid. Just because I'm not getting health care right away? Give me a break, I just started my new job, I have to get a little bit of money together to be able to do it. It's not like I'm going to be focused completely on putting money into the wedding. Our wedding isn't for another year+. I'm just saying that at this very second, I do not have the money to afford health insurance. I know it's important, and I am going to get it as soon as possible, but I don't have the option of it right this second. And like I said, I do not want to go back on hormonal birth control because there's no point being on it for a month and then going back off of it again. I was just looking for some other products that you ladies may have used in the past, like I did see someone mention about Ensure.

FYI, I'm donating the eggs because I want nothing more than to be a mother myself when the time is right for me, and I know I would feel horrible if I couldn't have children because of something wrong with my eggs. I haven't been able to donate before because you have to be 21, and I turn 21 in November. So yes, I'm young. But I'm not doing it for the money, I've been wanting to do it for years in hopes that I'll be able to help someone. So I'm not exactly sure why you all feel the need to call me stupid and say I should be sterilized. Honestly, I'm the only one of my straight female friends that doesn't have a child; most of my friends and girls I know got pregnant around 16. So why am I the stupid one for looking into optional birth control methods to avoid having a child when I'm not ready? I don't understand why I'm getting attacked for not having insurance right this second [seeing as I never said anything about NOT getting it, even before I donate] because I'm trying to find information so that I DON'T have a baby when I'm not ready? Why am I being condemned for that? I was just saying that if you didn't know any options besides abstinence, getting hormonal birth control, or getting down to a PP, then you didn't need to post anything. I just wanted some opinions on OTC methods.

And I wasn't looking for pity from this thread. Where was I asking for you guys to feel sorry for me because I don't have healthcare? I know there are thousands of people that don't, that can't even come close to affording it. I have no idea where some of you might've come up with the idea that I was looking for pity. All I was asking was if any girls had any experience on using OTC methods of birth control for a temporary period. And I've gotten my answer elsewhere, so I'm not sure why this thread is still going.

And since I haven't done so already, I would like to say thank you to the people that actually gave me useful advice. Whether I took it or not, I do appreciate the women that actually took this seriously and gave me some honest answers.

12$ (+ shipping) for 4 condoms. If you had sex everyday, that means it would cost you more for rubbers than it would for the month of BC.

On that note, I think Rite Aid? Or CVS has a "First 5 perscriptions filled" are free or 5$, you might look into that.

Yes, I'm not happy about it. But I'm not going to act like it didn't happen. There were extenuating circumstances and I was young. I still am young, but I'm just saying that the situation was kind of sprung on me and, as a teenager, I made a dumb mistake. Believe you me, I didn't want to be divorced at 20. Hell, I didn't even want to be married until I was closer to 25. But I made a mistake and I'm dealing with it.

And it wasn't because I found someone with a bigger penis, my ex was just as well-endowed. So everyone else, please knock it off with the "she found a guy with a bigger penis" crap, 'cause it's not true.

Regardless, After my evidence with the pictures, I find it hard (ahaha) to believe that your FI can't just suck it up and wear a reg rubber like every other guy. They suck, and they are tight, but it is what it is.

Honestly, they make bigger condoms to stroke the male ego. They can charge more for less, and the guy gets to carry around a rubber that says Magnum on it. Win Win.
• Hey, noone here has the right to knock the things people foolishly do when they're younger...I've been married before too...although I think it's just the thought of being married so young that catches people off guard... as you've said, you're still young. I hope before you and your FI tie the knot, that you take some time to make sure you've grown up enough to be able to handle the marriage you're entering.

I have to agree about the condom issue tho...your FI may just need to suck it up until you have a better method... or try online, and see if you can google up a condom sale site to find something more 'fitting'... Be careful that whatever you find isn't too loose tho...there is supposed to be some snugness to a condom, otherwise, it wouldn't stay put, right?

For the record, calm down...you seem to be a very quick to anger personality...don't get so upset and negative...I'm sure you're a very nice person. There are many things in this topic, lots of ideas and suggestions, I realize that you're trying to avoid hormonal birth control, but that is probably what many of the ladies here have expirence with, becuase they work as well as they do.

First off, I just wanna say thank you. Thank you for not attacking me and being one of the first people to talk to me like an adult. I'm not normally quick to anger, it's just some of this stuff was extremely offensive and based entirely off assumptions.

And trust me, I have grown up significantly even just since my last marriage ended, whether it seems like it to outsiders or not. I was rushed into the initial one because of the Army, and just the overall naivety of being a teenager. I more or less know what I'm doing this time, hence why I'm not rushing it [the wedding is more than a year away atm]. But thank you for the concern even though you don't me.

Honestly, my FI and I are trying to avoid condoms at all cost; they'd be an absolute last resort to us, right before abstinence. We've considered them, but neither of us is very comfortable with it. I'm not discrediting that advice, I just don't want that to be my only option. And like I said, I was asking for people who had experience with other methods, and I distinctly said that I didn't want to go back on hormonal birth control. So I just feel that if they didn't have any experience with other methods, then they shouldn't bother posting because that's not what I asked for. That's all. I wasn't trying to get snotty with anyone.
• The problem is that there really aren't any other methods, especially if you're trying to avoid getting pregnant at all costs. The highest success rates are for abstinence, FAM, condoms, and hormonal birth control. Anything other than that is a crap shoot, even when used correctly. You're asking for a miracle and yelling at us when we can't provide.

Look, I can come here asking for a way to teleport into work because I'm tired of dealing with the commute, but railing against the heavens about all of the available options won't wish the teleportation process into existence. You have to work with what's available.
