Fishermans knot ceremony

Does anyone know the wording/actions for a fisherman a knot ceremony? We aren't overly religious, and I've found vague references online to a ceremony where the couple ties a fishermans knot and I really like the idea and symbolism o it the rope will fall apart before the knot unties and the knot only gets stronger with pressure but I haven't been able to find anything that shows what the officiant says while we tie this.

Re: Fishermans knot ceremony

  • I dont know if there is specific wording for the fishermans knot (I tired searching and couldnt ind anything either), but you could use something similar to a handfasting ceremony.  Found this simpliied one at http://www.huntervalleycelebrant.com.au/Wedding_Ceremony_rituals.html:

CELEBRANT Sally and Ian, I ask you to turn and look into each other’s eyes and hold hands.

Will you honour and respect one another,
And seek to never break that honour?

SALLY & IAN We Will (the first cord is draped over the hands)

CELEBRANT And so the binding is made.
Will you share each others pain and seek to ease it?

SALLY & IAN We Will (the second cord is draped over the hands)

CELEBRANT And so the binding is made.

Will you share the burdens of each other,
So that your spirits may grow in this union?

SALLY & IAN We Will (the third cord is draped over the hands)

CELEBRANT And so the binding is made.

Will you share each others laughter,
And look for the brightness and positive in each other?

SALLY & IAN We Will (the forth cord is draped over the hands)

CELEBRANT And so the binding is made.

Sally and Ian, as your hands are bound together now,
So your lives and spirits are joined in a union of love and trust.
Above you are the stars and below you is the earth.
Like the stars, your love should be a constant source of light,
And like the earth, a firm foundation from which to grow.

Obvisoluly you woulnt be tying the fishermans knot over your hands, but you could change the wording to fit any secific virtues/values that you want to say as part of vows so that as you tie the knot the officiant is saying what promises/values wont break in your marriage and your guests will know whas going on.

    Anniversary
