Wedding Party

Kind of WP related

I just got invited to a bridal shower, and the attire is "winter white".

Hmmm, not sure I like being told what to wear, I am an adult afterall.

Re: Kind of WP related

  • Weirdness. I mean, I don't see anything necessarily wrong with stating a theme, but to dictate the attire? Odd.

I've not been to a shower yet, however, so I don't know protocol on this sort of thing.

  • That is weird and I'd want to be the b*tch that shows up in bright red haha.

If they're a good friend of yours and you really want to attend, I'd probably go with it, but that is super weird and a little high maintenance.

  • Weird.  I can understand telling you the formality of the attire, but the color?  I'm really curious as to why you all have to be in white.  (Random aside: A few months or year ago some bride was b!tching on here that her BM wore white to the shower, and that was unacceptable because as the bride only she could be in white at any wedding-related event.  True story.)

I got invited to a shower over the summer that the bride and hostess knew would be impossible for me to attend (it was in Boston, I has just moved to California) and I was assigned a gift to buy even after I'd sent my regrets.  I did not send a gift, though I probably would have had it not been assigned to me.

  • Yes, but if I showed up in red I would be the token hoar! I would be burned at the stake!

No, it's not a close friend- so I will be sending a gift. I just think it is weird.

I remember the chick that flipped out about her MIL or whatever being in white at the shower! I'm still apparently too dumb to see what her problem was there.

Anyway ... I'd just go along with it, if you already have something in your closet that will work ... otherwise, I'd go with a white sweater/blouse and nice slacks in the color of your choosing. I definitely wouldn't be happy about it ... but Im hoping it's just over-zealous BMs or something, and not the bride being all "It's my shower, and this is my vision for it".

ETA: I meant if you were  actually going to go to the shower, that's how I'd handle it. Personally, I'd probably skip a shower with a dress code unless the bride was a really good friend or close family member.

  • wow.. very weird.
I guess she'll get the hint when two people show up to her shower... including her.  lol
I mean what are you suppose to do if you dont have an entire outfit for winter time thats white.. go spend money on something your gonna use once.

I say if you really wanna make her mad show up in your wedding gown and say "this is the only thing i have in white".  Thatll teach her.  lol (sorry, i crack myself up)

If I remember correctly, she went on and on about how white is the bride's color and the fact that someone else (BM?  FMIL?  FSIL?) would wear it meant that they were sabotaging her.  Obvi.

  • Yeah, they'd be SOL.  I don't own and don't wear white.  My favorite color is orange, so I'd probably show up in an orange shirt and matching purse, just out of sheer orneryness.

  • Fuschia.  Definitely fuschia.

Ot bring a bag of marshmallows for your gift and say "Ohhhhhhhh, I thought the GIFT was supposed to be winter white."
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I'm honestly trying to think of a shower where I wasn't wearing jeans.  50+ over my lifetime and I can't think of one.

  • I probably would, in all honesty, forget and just wear whatever I had.  I'm really bad about things like that.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Ha.  I attended a shower two weeks ago for which the required attire was "smart casual."

I was present at the planning meeting in early November and objected to putting anything about a dress code on the invitiations.  No one else had an issue with it, though.
