Anyone else doing charity donations? My dad died in 2004 of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and I'm planning on making cardstock cards that say "In lieu of favors a donation has been made to the ALS association in Robert --------'s name" and on the left of the card i'll be pinning an ALS awareness ribbon for people to take home. Does that sound okay? My colors are sky blue and navy and the ALS ribbon is white with navy pinstriping and I was planning on making the cards sky blue. Any input/suggestions? Better wording? I'm all ears!

Re: In lieu of favors..
Please don't pretend this is a favor. People don't expect favors at weddings so just don't do them. Make your donation but don't tell people what they aren't getting. If it really means that much to you to donate to ALS, why not ask guests to donate to this instead of giving you a gift. Too much? How about you and your FI making a donation as your gift to eachother.
Oh...and you've heard from 2 people. Many, many, many people actually think this is a bad idea. Here are some past threads for you to look through.

It's not necessary to say "in lieu of favours". They aren't required and you don't owe anyone an excuse as to why they don't have one.
Why point out that you are donating? Do it for the good of donating.
Why do people have to be so cutthroat at this? I love the idea. We are donating to local animal shelters. I do not want to send a check for fear that it will be used for non-essentials like advertising and office supplies. Instead, we are going to the pet store and purchasing food and collars and dropping them off at the two shelters we adopted our dogs from. That way we know the money is used for the dogs.
I say go for it. Use the cards and the pins. If anyone says you are selfish or needing attention, they need to look at their own problems first....
