Isn't it a bit early...

For Christmas-y  "Holiday" Stuff?

I work for a semi-national gas station chain, and I went to the store across the street from the corporate office to get some lunch and they already had the store decked out in holiday decorations. Red and Green stuff everywhere... candy canes, christmas trees, and wrapping paper all over the walls along with christmas music playing.

I understand places like Michaels or Hobby Lobby because they are all about holiday decorating...but anywhere else....REALLY? It isn't even after halloween yet!

I totally agree! I love Christmas but people just way overdo it by decorating so early. I feel like it comes earlier and earlier every year.

I mean, really.... 2 months prior to Christmas? It's excessive. It's not even Halloween yet.... or Thanksgiving... lol

My birthday is mid-December, and I don't like Christmas things until after my birthday.  It's just me, and I know the world doesn't revolve around me, but it's just a preference.  I won't decorate until after!

I am a December baby.  Early December so I am lost between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Right there with you.  Although as a kid I did think the stores put up all of the lights for me.  I was like 4. HAA

Our Hobby Lobby started putting Christmas crap up in JULY  I'm all for Christmas in July, but when they start shoving Christmas down my throat that early I get really sick of it.  My mom is already contemplating what Christmas tree to get, and I was like "Halloween, Thanksgiving, THEN Christmas".  I Love the holidays, but it feels like they start earlier and earlier every year!

I am a christmas baby. I was born 1 week before christmas. My family has always made sure its been 2 seperate days. When I was younger I got to decide when we decorated for Christmas

I'd be perfectly happy skipping Christmas (I want the days off, though!).  But try to make me miss Thanksgiving and I'll cry.

When I was living in China, they tried to host a thanksgiving for the American students and it was crap.  They served HAM!  Ugh.  And baked sweet potatoes, but absolutely no mashed potatoes.  It was not thanksgiving.  There was no pumpkin pie or apple pie.  I mean, it was a good meal, but I'd rather have had a great Chinese meal than a crappy wanna-be American meal attempting to replace Thanksgiving.

Luckily I worked at an English language edu-tainment company that held a Thanksgiving feast for its members, so I got to work (yay!) and sit with the Intermediate English class to teach them about what Thanksgiving means to us, what the various food items are for, customs, etc.  It was so cool!  I didn't realize that most of the world thinks Thanksgiving is religious.

FLT- Thank you for the update on the days until Christmas now I am going to panic.  I have no idea what to send to H.  So I just e-mailed him to send me a list.  HAA

Haha, FTL, You make me smile mucho!!

Crown- I know!! and the postal service is saying to send packages guaranteed for Christmas delivery NLT November 12 or 26.. I can't remember.  I feel bad cause it's H's first real Christmas away from home, so I want to send him the comforts of home, but without rubbing it in that he's not home.  Does that make any sense?! Ughhh, why are holidays and school so expensive.. I need like a million jobs, or a million dollars..

Ughh!  I know it totally make sense.  I want to have him feel like  he is part of Christmas.  I have even planned a skype thing (I am sure that will change. UGH!) where we will open our gifts with each other but then I don't want him to feel totally bumbed out becuase I get off the internet/phone/skype and get to have a good meal and he is stuck eating..."deployment food."  Does that make any sense?

I have also thought about doing a Thanksgiving/Christmas meal when he is home for R&R when ever that will be and save his big gift for then and maybe put up the tree.

Ditto with the needing a million jobs!!! I would buy a lotto ticket but that is a $1.00 that I can use to buy something for a care package.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />

I agree. I really hate how commerical Christmas is. "Buy love"...There is ALWAYS  some sort of drama in my family (so-and-so wants to put a cap on the amount of money we spend on people, draw names, home made), It isn't about the "STUFF" I would rather enjoy family.  My favorite christmas ever was the Christmas we had 2 feet of snow...I was visiting FIs family and were stuck in the house, the cars couldn't get through the streets, none of the gifts were at the house because we had shipped them to my parents house, we had planned to go to my brother's house for dinner so they had no food. But it was GREAT!

tehehehee :) I'm super excited... Mainly because I'm doing a lot of DIY stuff this year for H's family. His family is crafty crafty so I'm excited that it won't come off looking cheap to make gifts... It's not that we're cheap, I just am really excited to be crafty!!! lol.
I need to calm down... I still have a Thanksgiving dinner to plan which I'm excited about.. too much holiday awesomeness!! :]

I totally agree.  My favorite part of Christmas is Christmas Eve, because my family has a tradition where they have a giant feast of appetizers.  It started out just my parents, my brother, and me when we were little, and then my Dad's extended family (his parents and four sisters and their families) and then my Mom's parents take turns and then all sorts of friends - all of our Jewish friends, my brother's two best friends, my high school friends.  We literally have 30 people at my parents' house each Christmas Eve.  I really could care less about presents or Christmas Day even.

This year, my parents are re-doing their house and as my brother and I each only have Friday and Monday off on either side of Christmas weekend, we can't afford to go home.  And I can't afford to go visit my brother, so I insisted my parents go out to visit him as he's younger and will miss them more at the holidays.  So FI and I are having Christmas alone, which is cool by me.  I'll miss my parents and brother, but it's okay - I'm going home a few weeks earlier for a weekend.

I think that's why I like Thanksgiving best - it's food, family, and football.  And no stress!  No shopping, no money, no "did he spend more on me than I spent on him", nothing.  Nada.  Sooooo much better!
